I am probably never going to be able to wind down as long as I can see the shit going on here, so screw this place, I'm out for the next week.

The UK has spent the last fifteen years systematically impoverishing so many people who get too sick to work. See DeathsByWelfare.org. We're facing renewed political assault now. So please don't erase sick people's poverty and their social murder in other countries to make your point about America.

I realise Netflix looked at cancelling DBD before the abuse came to light. But I still think fandom can can do better for the cause of queer TV than keeping some abuser's IP bankable - which he's counting on, because he'll do what all these guys do and try for a career redemption arc in a few years.

This was *yesterday*

Jesus. And don't be getting any ideas about being above all this, UK people. We've got a government that increasingly worships and imitates the most sinister American methods. We need to be on alert to resist this shit as and when our bastards copy their bastards.

Today's excellent trivia fact.

Pissed off but not at all surprised, especially given the way anti-autistic ableism's being weaponised by transphobes. It's that same technique of trying to create skepticism around everything we say about ourselves, and very much the same people attacking two vulnerable and overlapping communities.

Jay is right: I took part in the Spartacus movement during the early 2010s welfare reforms. At that time Lord Freud was a huge antagonist of the disabled people's movement. While a lot of harm was done, our lobbying of the House of Lords got amendments in that limited scope. 1

The other really telling thing about this is that neither they nor several prior governments has said a word about Permitted Work, which allows people on ESA to work while on benefits. So trumpeting right to try as new and groundbreaking while planning to end ESA is incredibly dishonest.

#DisabilityBenefits cuts are #DisabilityBenefits cuts. They are not part of a benign agenda.

MPs - Starmer says people too ill to work will be “protected.” But that protection already exists—it’s called LCWRA. Labour’s plan? Halve the money. Shrink the group. Strip the support. Don’t fall for the spin. Vote against these dangerous #DisabilityCuts. #WelfareNotWorkfare

@crowsong23.bsky.social welcome! ☺️

For the day that's in it...

good way to ensure i will never go back to the cinema ever. wtaf is this nonsense?? no. put your phone away and watch the dang movie. people pay lots of money to see a movie at the cinema, not for you to be a selfish jerk and ruin it with your phone.

Ministers refused to meet with us about the #MentalHealthBill, so we are going to them. 📢 On 29th April we will deliver a letter to @skinnock.bsky.social and Baroness Merron demanding a meaningful say on how to keep us out of psychiatric hospitals. Find out more: buff.ly/eifOvod

Current mood.

It's an incredibly significant subject everywhere, but the scale of need and vulnerability in Northern Ireland is directly tied to our history and its ongoing effects, so local coverage really matters. m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/health/...

The newly greenlit project was first announced last October.

I've been noticing lately more and more generalised stuff (what you might call the culture of the relationship) and from earlier in my former relationship, where I can see stuff that's off about it now, yet couldn't before. Not sure what line I've crossed (not dating yet to compare) to realise...

Someone who is no longer in my life for good reasons was fanatical about any little fold or tear, and years later it's still a battle not to get really sad and upset with myself if I put a paperback down awkwardly and bestow a corner crease on the cover or something. Life's too short for this shit.

I'm always surprised when I encounter people in my circle who don't listen to the Radio Rental podcast, or have never heard of it. If you can picture a 4-part venn diagram with overlapping circles for HORROR, VHS RENTALS, PARANORMAL and NOSTALGIA, this podcast is right in the middle. Go listen!

A quarter of autistic people get bad reactions to telling members of the public that they're autistic. Around half are reluctant to leave the house for fear of bad treatment. This impedes us, though often attacked politically, from getting involved in politics. act.autism.org.uk/page/166073/...

STILL don't think there's an important role for you-- whatever your particular skills, gifts, talents, inclinations-- in making important change in the world??? You sure about that?? I MEAN.

In case you wondered how broken our court system is.

I think we’ll get a ban on adult trans healthcare under this UK government. I think it’ll probably happen piecemeal with bans on GPs supporting us and bans on private care, followed by a de facto ban on new patients in the NHS.

Some lower power to brighten up your day! We had a little snow yesterday, which is already gone. #bloomscrolling #Flowers #spring

I'm speaking about trans pregnancy research in Switzerland next week! My talk will look how how the moral panic over trans inclusion in perinatal services stands up against the large and growing evidence base for gender-affirming care.
