Trump claimed the Biden administration spent $8 million "making mice transgender." The White House tried to back up this number with records of funding for research into cancer, asthma, and HIV, some of which used *transgenic* (genetically modified) mice.

america does have a crisis of elites. None of them believe in anything, they actively reject the concept of civic virtue, and fundamentally do not believe in consequences

Right after Trump said he'd stop federal funding, "for any College, School, or University that allows illegal protests. Agitators will be imprisoned/or permanently sent back to the country from which they came. American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on on the crime, arrested."

It’s maybe worth noting that this guy used to be President of Doctors Without Borders so you know he’s fucking pissed at all those kids needlessly dying because of this bullshit

DOGE's "receipts" continue to be complete nonsense. And now deliberately so, given that they were told this was false and they removed it, only to repost it. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/05/u...

🔥 Rep. Al Green is not new to standing up

We're gonna move fast and break things. Sometimes we'll make mistakes. If we remove the wrong organ we'll put it back in. We are disrupting surgery

i think that it is wrong to call the variety of Christianity Hegseth adheres to patriarchal. patriarchal Christianity may be tyrannical but presupposes a family within which there are reciprocal duties. the CREC is unique in that it places absolutely no limitations on male license. it is rapacious.

"A Republic, if you can keep it" is not some idle truism, it is the zeroth law of democracy: a people who cannot or will not rule itself cannot be a democracy.

there aren't any communists in america. the number of democratic socialists in america is a rounding error. most of them vote for democrats anyway. the five thousand most annoying people in this demographic are teenagers who follow one million people and hate all of them.

As another Trump-induced market crisis unfolds from tariffs, it's time we ask "What's the Matter with Billionaires?" I've run the numbers. Billionaires do better under Dems. So why do billionaires keep supporting GOP policies against their economic interests? See my latest piece on why. (TLDR 🧵⬇️)

This is just Nazism, I'm sorry to be so tedious and repetitive, but this kind of bowdlerized Nietzscheanism for popular audience can really have no other name

You get the feeling that a certain part of legal academia would be glad to defend Dred Scott and get mad if you posted Douglas-level anger against them in response.

I'm sympathetic to this idea, because it makes sense, it's rational, it's how someone smart but evil would act. It only falls down when you listen to the actual words Donald Trump says about it, such as "trade deficits are stealing from us" and "tariffs are free money they will pay us"

25 hours

you can basically churn out a piece like this a day if you dive into who musk and vance interact with on twitter but for some reason no legacy media outlet is doing that

It’s striking how effectively republicans tied mainstream dems with random internet communists, despite the two groups hating each other, while the vice president and shadow president are clearly in a million group chats with literal nazis and people hardly notice

i continue to believe pretty strongly that enabling people to live in ways that permanently eliminate virtually all material concerns from their lives breaks politics and representative government, and that representative government must counterattack those conditions to ensure it's own survival

The idea the president alone can levy taxes on a whim and spend it as he pleases without any congressional approval is the kind of thing so beyond the pale it's not unconstitutional, it's anti-constitutional. It is overturning in starkest terms the central rallying cry of the American Revolution.

i'm periodically astounded by it, too, but i think this underlines the problem of why so much of it doesn't break through to the general public. it's genuinely hard to wrap your head around how evil and how stupid these people are.

periodically astounded by just how comprehensively evil everyone in this administration is there isn't even the vaguely humanizing "well, at least he loves the fluffy white cat he pets while he plots world domination" give these guys a puppy and they'll punt it at the nearest immigrant

There is still time, I say to myself as I waste it

NO KINGS NO SLAVES NO NAZIS gets you the three good American wars, in chronological order no less. sounds insane to argue against any of them and yet it is very clear which side you're on

the vice president of the united states is a groyper who spends his online time following nazis and esoteric reactionary influencers is true and yet the press seems completely disinterested in it

Posting through it where nobody can see lol

At some point the opposition needs to say what is happening here: Donald Trump is a tyrant in the full sense of the term, an American fascist dictator who believes the law flows directly from his command. And he is also a deeply unwell, unfit, and criminal man with nonsensical whims

this is why, during the first administration, it was a scandal that they had hired Darren Beattie, a white supremacist: they could imagine that he was hired by accident, and that this was a scandal of incompetence. but when they hired him again, for the second administration, silence.

i am not sure why this is the only domain where people regularly confuse labor with capital, assume that they are aligned, and call this materialist analysis

jesus christ

A lot of hyper-polarized Americans are going to find out the hard way that just because they [like/don't like] whoever is in the White House, other countries have their own imperatives and existential economic threats will be reacted to accordingly.

“Emails that have since been made public quite clearly show that Littlejohn, in fact, asked the school to use they/them pronouns for their non-binary child. Littlejohn … gave approval to let their child and their teachers lead on appropriate school protocols.”

I'm so unbelievably repressed

the lack of a unified response is honestly the bigger problem here than any of the stuff people are freelancing!

very strongly agree, that was the moment and they didn't have it together to even try

with all that is in me I pray that the fruits of feb-march 2025 bring about absolute national ruin for the republican party

jesus fucking christ, man, it gets really tired noting this kind of thing, but "[veterans] aren't fit to have a job or aren't willing to come to work" is the kind of headline that should absolutely destroy a fucking administration and would, if that administration were led by a democrat

insofar as any plan exists, it is to tear the federal government apart and leave it hollowed out and toothless in ways no one alive has ever seen

everyone — literally everyone — underestimated how much damage we avoided by mnuchin being willing to play along and sound like a dumbass while talking trump into (relatively, by comparison) sane economic policy

Look if you want to save money you have to start fights with all your allies, throw the global economy into chaos, buddy up with the dour thuggish dictator of a hollowed-out petrostate, and fire 100s of thousands of professionals in key roles across all sectors of society, that’s leadership 101.

Trudeau: "He talked about banking again today in a tweet, which doesn't make any sense because 16 banks are currently active in Canada holding about $113b worth of assets in this country... what he wants is to see a total collapse of the Canadian economy, because that'll make it easier to annex us."

"The emperor's clothes" seems ham-handed and silly until you watch several million people act it out, seemingly of their own free will.

Listening to this I can't help but think how big US media rarely uses such plain language about known facts. It's always "critics say" or "Democrats claim" or "some experts believe."

It's economically destructive and geopolitical insanity and bad for the United States in every possible way, but more than that, torching our relationships with our closest friends and literal neighbors in Canada and Mexico is a profoundly immoral thing to do, and should be denounced as such.
