Hey look a portal open to public submission, hope no one floods it with the Bee Movie script to the point of being unusable or something

We don’t need better stories. We need to be humble. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I guess I hadn't posted this yet and didn't even know it had come out-- I was interviewed for (and co-wrote w/Daniel Rabosky) a Trends in Ecology & Evolution "TrendsTalk" article on "Disability in ecology and evolution" -- www.cell.com/trends/ecolo... #DisabledInSTEM #academicchatter #academia

"A Triple Threat to Humanity: Climate Change, Pandemics, and Anti-Science" | My new article with Peter Hotez in #SkepticalInquirer: skepticalinquirer.org/2024/12/a-tr...

Africa is climatically extreme, and through the climate change will become even more extreme

Brilliant BBC animated report by ecologist David Goulson on the vital role of insects in our ecosystems and the real threats of declining populations

Don’t think I ever truly understood the scale of Jimmy Carter’s environmental record while president. He “signed 14 major pieces of environmental legislation, including the first funding of alternative energy, the first federal toxic waste cleanup (the Super Fund), (1/3)

Single-blind #peerreview leads to more positive outcomes if you are: - male - White - in the US or North America - well-published or known in your field - affiliated with a prestigious institution Can we please make double-blind the gold standard now? 🧪 #academicsky #SciPub

I may not know what day of the week or day of the month it is, but I managed to get most of the Blackboard site for my evidence-based STEM pedagogy course set up today. So, that feels good.

Diversity of experience is important for academia, and barriers for people from underrepresented groups - like first-generation students - continue to persist.

And I believe therein lies a problem…

I feel seen.

Instead of listing my publications, as the year draws to an end, I want to shine the spotlight on the commonplace assumption that productivity must always increase. Good research is disruptive and thinking time is central to high quality scholarship and necessary for disruptive research.

Two stages of writing: 1) This shouldn't take too long 2) Oh no

Super happy to see this paper finally published!!! 🙌🙌 How do chimpanzees in the wild find hidden food resorces, like army ants? Check it out to get an answer😉👇 www.nature.com/articles/s42...

hey everyone! i made a list of some useful starter packs (primarily biology/earth sciences with a few bonus things thrown in) to share with friends who have joined bsky in the last week and thought it may be useful for some people here too! 🌍🧪 #SciSky #BioSky docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Happy Evolution Day! Today's the 165 anniversary of the initial publication of Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species" - and this is a page from his notebooks. 🧪

Do you have a student who is a non-native English speaker #NNES ? A post-doc? A collaborator? Are you a reviewer? It takes years to get to express yourself in a foreign language, if it ever happens The manifold costs of being a non-native English speaker in science journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...

and none of those pieces are being written by people who understand how that level of constant abuse CHANGES you it’s not a mere tedious cleanup process, blocking today’s round of trolls just like sorting out the junk mail from the bills and birthday cards it does not live on you that lightly

I'm still adding to this but thought I'd share my starter pack for primatology!

Trans rights are human rights.

LEAVE TRANS PEOPLE THE FUCK ALONE! Let them pee in peace. FFS.

cis folks: one thing to know is that while there are orgs helping trans folks, the needs rn HUGELY exceed the funding they have available. want to help trans people? a real material thing you can do is donate to these orgs, especially the smaller orgs

Today is a good day to donate to Portland’s Trans Wardrobe Project, which provides free capsule wardrobes to low-income trans folks and is struggling to find funding

Fittingly, my first post on here is in celebration of International Day of #PrideinSTEM. I am proud to be a primatologist, proud to be a STEM educator, and most importantly I'm proud to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community, because it allowed me to marry most amazing man in the world ❤️
