The Janissaries do not like the edict of this vizier.

This is such a great photo. Just the mixture of smugness from LBJ and then Nixon's discomfort, and then Agnew being confused

Not only will the Canadians resist, I think a lot of people also underestimate how unpopular Iraq was despite the post-9/11 bump in support. This is a not very popular regime asking to do something extremely unpopular. There will be resistance here as well as in Canada

Probably say something like "our well-meaning liberal friend Donald Trump values appeasement and surrender to the Soviets. But you and I know and do believe that we can surrender our values to please a master who stands against our way of life"

Sports people try to see themselves as a bastion of apolitical-ism but fail to really see that most of sports, especially the great moments are great because of the political context. The Miracle of Ice is an amazing story because it was against the Soviet Union... Rocky IV but real.

Someone wiser than I said it on this platform, I forget who, but they noted how the reoccurring lesson from Trump's response to protests in 2020, is that he is very afraid the people hate him and will kill him.

we have a very hot stove. very hot stove. Some are saying the hottest stove. If we just got out and touch it... I think we may be alright.

oh I am not disagreeing. The fact that it took until Vietnam for an African American to get a medal of honor is appalling. I am just pointing out this extraordinary sailor is worthy of being being honored in one of the most powerful ships on the planet
comment in response to post
should also note that he also has the honor of being the first enlisted sailor and African American to have an aircraft carrier named after them

A professor of mine once said "America doesn't fight wars it fights crusades." We must speak with the seriousness and conviction of that crusader, or as FDR said best at MSG in 36, "The banners of that crusade still fly in the van of a Nation that is on the march."

Makes you wonder if he's doing this all now so when the weather gets better he can fuck off to the golf-courses

I would caution against this idea that the views of young people in this time will hold firm in the future. Especially when their party gets punched in the mouth electorally in the future. It is important to remember that the "hippies" of the 60s voted for Nixon in 72 and Reagan in 80.

Our version of the Épuration légale once this is over will be fun or infuriating. Can't decide which tbh

Bern and Geneva are far better cities and representations of Swiss soul. More interesting and better walk able areas.

I can only imagine what "losing China 2.0" debates would look like. Either be a tremendous shock or basically be our Suez Moment I fear

The stove cannot be denied, only delayed.

Do you have "the Expression" stuck on your face by chance?

The stove is primed and ready, sir

I think it's fundamentally just a mindset when you have majority/minority government rather than government/opposition. That even if you are a minority you still think you are part of government so have to make it work whilst trying to find ways to attack?

I am talking more in the early days and during the revolution where the SDP turned to Freikorps to kill communists. It was never a very strong state.

People also make light of the fact that Weimar Germany was a nation without a strong democratic tradition before, and featured a government that widely used paramilitary groups to maintain its power. Even before the Nazis and SA

They like Christianity without Christ. I am just baffled how anyone can call themselves faithful and miss the point completely. That he is only Christ because he sacrifices himself to save us all.
comment in response to post
And by saying this they just prove they have no idea about the faith they say they believe in. That to them Christianity is just vibes and a few popular biblical quotes when convent. Absolutely devoid of faith

median voter likely thinks war is just a great game that happens over there. They probably don't realize that for a lot of people in the Northeast power is going to be effected bc of power sharing/gas agreements, or that your vacation to Niagara Falls is cancelled bc war don't give a shit

Now we just have to win the whole damn thing and celebrate in their backyard instead.

And also like the first time around, they try to keep their "method" for far too long and stumble into a mess

I would laugh so hard if the Russians banked so hard for Trump to win, have their guy win, only to shit themselves and collapse before Inauguration day. Unlikely, sure, but hilarious

If Cicero knew that this was what a republic could turn into, he would have greeted Caesar at the Rubicon

Just a lack of pride in their play. Want to be too safe and not pass, which ironically is often the least safe option.
comment in response to post
The fact the last play on regulation is a pass from the point rather than a shot on net is indicative of this cult of quality.

We were truly blessed to have one SoD for 4 years. Even if that meant he did that one fuck up of not notifying the president he had cancer and was seeking treatment. This scandal will probably pale in comparison to what we see from the next group
comment in response to post
The American public wants to be told stories and history is great for that. But I do not think most people want to actually have conversations about the history and the wider arc. Not to mention the crusade against the arts in general bc it's not a "marketable skill" or some nonsense like that
comment in response to post
honestly at this point their administration may be unpopular and in the toilet before Inauguration

You are far better than MILTWITTER you are MIL-THEORY TWITTER. Providing the ideological backing to win those hearts and minds

We are going to look back and realize how lucky we were to have one SOD for 4 years. But I think Forrestal or the old SOW Simpson would be a good shout.

The takes are wild. It's not even been a week and it's just wild, wild takes and doomerism. Which is fine I guess, but just realize that things change quick in politics and whilst the POTUS election was bad, the Dems were far more competitive in Congress. In short people need to go outside
comment in response to post
Really people just need to stop being online and take a break. Yet another example of the sportification of politics where we are days after an election commentating like we are playing another game on Sunday. It is far too early to comment on the state of anything with any certainty.
comment in response to post
I think you really need to not nominate people from California for a bit. Too much baggage comes as being from "Commie-fornia" to the average voter, which hampers opinions. In short you got to stop taking candidate from liberal strong holds. Need battleground types and scrappers imo.
comment in response to post
Really the fact that there were 7 battleground states, campaigned hard in all of them, and lost all of them really is just shattering
comment in response to post
The lack of turn out for this election is simply baffling. I think that require a lot of soul-searching and investigation towards where that went wrong. Especially with apparently high levels of enthusiasm. Like did a bunch of people lie about saying they were going to vote?
comment in response to post
I think cynicism is warranted. Especially since it seems most of our fellow Americans have proven they care about their wallets and scant else, but that works in the inverse. His inability to deal with the economics of COVID did cost him 2020
comment in response to post
Well if history is to go by, the GOP usually gets quite overconfident and then does a bunch of stuff people hate. The Dems challenge is finding that "proverbial" next generation of leader and really just need to be bold with a good vision and probably ruthless. Easier said than done tho.
