This is, in large part, pandemic revenge. As far as these oligarchs are concerned, all science does is tell them stuff they cannot do. They can't keep spewing carbon. They can't keep businesses open as usual when millions are dying. They have concluded that research is the enemy of profit.

Vally Kilmers

Gang members should not be disappeared to an unaccountable torture prison either.

this week I plan to honor Val Kilmer's memory by rewatching Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and Tombstone and, uh ... forgetting The Island of Dr. Moreau ever existed.

okay, felt THAT one.

They're such chumps at Wilkie Farr they "proactively" reached out to Trump to make a deal. Supreme loser energy.

Something is fundamentally wrong with America when millions of dollars can’t buy you a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat, the respect of your children, the silence of your baby mammas, or a functional penis implant.

Wisconsin fought and clawed to get out from under the thumb of the Kochs and Uihleins who had bought and paid for gerrymandered Republican dominance for years. And then another rich motherfucker showed up and the whole state said not today.

the next two seats are Republicans 😈

A grassroot movement to tell Musk to eat shit.

Cory Booker does a 24-hour filibuster the old way and 0 of his fellow Democrats are inspired to object to unanimous consent to Matthew Whitaker becoming ambassador to NATO.

This pointless stunt by Cory Booker is accomplishing nothing but drawing attention to the Trump administration’s wrongdoing and delaying the work of the Senate and energizing the Democratic base and, wait, hang on, let me come in again

SENATOR BOOKER HASN'T USED THE BATHROOM IN OVER 24 HOURS AND MAY TAKE SOME TIME, PLEASE BE PATIENT

The very definition of Good Trouble, I think.

Booker is still going strong, my goodness

Saw someone twoot that they didn’t wanna see anyone giving Dems a hard time for not doing enough after this and I take the opposite view. Keep bitching cuz it’s working.

Whatever you think about Booker and filibusters: Cory Booker overturning THAT record in THIS moment would matter. Consigning a segregationist trying to stop the Civil Rights Act to oblivion would be a victory in itself. Doing it by putting the administration's crimes into the record? Even better.

And this is why we instantly block every single number that ever texts us for money.

I do appreciate a Black Senator deciding to take out this record.

This headline is what media complicity looks like

This may be the most important thing he's said if only because it's very hard for people to admit they were wrong and seeing someone else do it makes it so much easier

Very cool that America's executives and financiers will spare no effort or expense to prevent us from enacting even mild social democratic policies and then do this smol bean routine when it comes to a madman toying around with the liquidation of the economy

The Booker thing is fine; good even. It's better than anything Senate Dems have done to date. If theyd be doing stuff like this and using unanimous consent and other objections to slow nominations from day 1 we'd be in a better place as a country.

These people are irredeemable. www.mediamatters.org/immigration/...

White House Correspondents’ Dinner Scraps Host In Favor Of Terrified Silence. “While we respect the legacy of a presidential roast, if you so much as cough, you will be forcibly removed.” Please enjoy each autocratic shift equally. [theonion.com]

The administration’s key demand is not just that they can send anyone they like to a foreign labor camp, it’s that you will accept without question their assertion that the people they choose are dangerous menaces who deserve it. They want your unquestioning obedience.

Quite the rebuke. Federal court: "Secretary [Noam]’s actions appear predicated on negative stereotypes casting class-wide aspersions." Orders postponement of DHS decision to terminate the status of over 600,000 Venezuelan nationals who have legal status to reside and work temporarily in US.

They’re using the carceral system eagerly built over decades to do exactly what people told you they’d do while people were eagerly building it.

Attorney General Pam Bondi says Justice Department is seeking a *20 year* prison sentence for 24 year old Colorado man accused of vandalizing a Tesla dealership

Trump's 3/27 executive order targets the Smithsonian for advancing "the view that race is not a biological reality but a social construct." Trump argues that the exhibit's statement, below, is unscientific. He's wrong. As a biology professor and population geneticist, I agree with every word of it.

I have my issues with Booker as a politician, and we arguably ought to be seeing this kind of action from Dem senators more routinely under these circumstances—but the reality is, he's alone out there, and deserves some encouragement.

as it turns out there are worse options than hypocrisy, politically speaking

ICERAID crypto project claims to pay people to report immigrants and "terrorist" judges to law enforcement March 30, 2025 https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/?id=iceraid

there are those in this world with only evil in their soul

if you think this violates the law (and it very clearly does imo), you don't seek an injunction, you seek an indictment, given that the law makes it a class 1 felony. cowardice from the AG, cowardice from the courts, nobody wants the responsibility of actually enforcing the law. cowards all around

Worth sharing with alt text. Brian Eno's response to the Quaker arrests.

Also, a woman was handcuffed at a subway station in NYC (Franklin Ave) when she intervened asking why a delivery man was asked to show work permit by undercover agents. There is a video of that.

Dear @tonyromm.bsky.social can we not refer to Russell Vought's Christian values without mentioning that he seeks to throw people into poverty, crush the ability to develop new cures for diseases, attack immigrants-hardly "Christian" values. Giving him a pass on piety, unscrutinized, is stenography.

TBH the study really shows academia is too solicitous of conservative propaganda. The liberal views are beliefs / opinions; the conservative "belief" of "widespread voter fraud" is objectively false, yet 47.6% of academics would permit that delusion / lie to be taught to undergraduates.

Our hearts are with Myanmar today. Also filled with tremendous sorrow and shame for our country that USAID isn't there to help.

I'm not a particularly fancy man, but I've been in academia a long time, and I don't recall "don't ever discuss material that's extraneous to the class" ever having been mentioned as a "core tenet" of academic freedom.
