Via @propublica.org: Deployed Resources, the company that used to work for music festivals like Lollapalooza, is now working for ICE. They claim they worked 100 music festivals in 2018, & have since become a federal contractor working on Trump’s horrifying mass deportation efforts.

Soundcloud is using your music to train AI. Artists don’t want this! We want fair pay, fair treatment, and to be valued for the work we do and art we create. futurism.com/soundcloud-a...

Happy May Day 💪 Our struggles are all connected! UMAW is dedicated to building a fairer and more just music industry while fighting for the rights and dignity of workers everywhere.

If you're interested in organizing with UMAW as a worker in the musical arts but you don't have a lot of money to put toward dues right now (that's a lot of folks in music, TBH), you should know they have a simple dues waiver for both new and renewing members: actionnetwork.org/forms/member...

We need the Living Wage for Musicians Act! All workers deserve fair pay and dignity in our work. Streaming services and tech bro billionaires are exploiting artists and it needs to end.

The UMAW general membership meeting is TODAY at 5pm PST/8pm EST 💪❤️ Are you a member but haven’t gotten involved in one of our campaigns or subcommittees? Come build community and solidarity! Meet your comrades! actionnetwork.org/events/umaw-...

SXSW is choosing to shoot itself in the foot and erode its own music festival rather than regain the trust of artists and the music community. It seems that music will continue in some capacity at SXSW, and we will continue to demand fair pay and no warmongers at the festival.

This week, Spotify released their Loud and Clear statement on royalty payments. It couldn’t be louder or clearer: Spotify is exploiting artists. Daniel Ek believes that out of all 12 million uploaders, only 225k of them should be paid more than 1k a YEAR. This is unacceptable.

TOMORROW! Rsvp here: actionnetwork.org/events/umaws...

SXSW promised to kick out the US military and weapons manufacturers but is allowing the CIA at this year's festival. That's why we're still protesting until the festival makes real changes. Join us March 14 at Hole in the Wall for our Fair Pay + No Warmongers at SXSW event.

Healthcare is a human right! @joeyquits.bsky.social spoke with @rollingstone.com following Chappell Roan’s statement at the Grammys about how important it is for musicians to get organized.

Chappell Roan is completely correct! Musicians are workers, and we deserve fair payment & dignity in our workplace. UMAW introduced the Living Wage for Musicians Act with Rep. Rashida Tlaib to build a fairer music industry and increase wages for musicians. We need your help to make it happen!

The UMAW raffle ends TOMORROW at midnight pst! This is our main annual fundraiser, and allows us to continue building our organization and taking on new campaigns. Enter the raffle here: weareumaw.org/raffle

These major corporations think everyone is expendable, from the festival creators who get shut down without explanation to the musicians who are paid poverty wages from streaming companies. We’re all fighting the same enemy - we need to be in solidarity with each other!

Via @deerhoof.bsky.social - favorite quotes from Mood Machine by @lizpelly.bsky.social 💪 UMAW introduced the Living Wage for Musicians Act last year, which would regulate streaming services (including Spotify)-read more about the LWFMA here & sign onto our demands: weareumaw.org/make-streaming-pay

As subscription rates in the US for Spotify go up, artist payment rates go down. We need the Living Wage for Musicians Act, which would guarantee direct, fair payment to artists! Under the LWFMA, any increased subscription rate would increase artists’ pay.
