it's possible that he's using it in the context of database operations.

I guess we owe it to the question to define vomit. If we consider vomit to be material that enters thru the mouth, remains in the body for some time, and is then regurgitated, we can see how it might be considered a fair comparison.
Vomit is not digested, it's masticated and subjected to enzymes.

Of course you are correct, and up until now that was my policy without exception...it's not as though I could even articulate what I think might be at risk, but ever since the election I think I have been feeling whatever Wendy was feeling on the drive to the Overlook Hotel...π

I have to renew my recently-expired and I have the same question about filing taxes... I guess I am just going to do both and see what happens, I am not overwhelmingly confident in either process, but figure sooner is probably better than later.
Who knows.

Iraq had established "territorial gains" in Kuwait when my shipmates and I were sent to the Persian Gulf to re-establish their sovereignty
(sorry, I meant the ExxonMobil Gulf... still getting used to the process of naming rights...)

you can pretend to understand the token system, but it's not going to work when you jump to such crazy absolutes as claiming to have certainty in the results of a LLM... if their responses were as predictable as you suggest, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
have a good one

when the matrix glitches this hard, it affects everything.

"LLMs don't understand anything so they can't fact check" is a wonderful prompt for both AI and philosophical debate...

[cont] minor thing to instruct the LLM to seek clarification when presented with questionable instructions or input. I haven't explored this specifically but have trained models with more complex instruction for sure, I have a model that cites sources for claims of facts and it works well.

fair criticism, but I suspect it is more complex than it might appear. If a new instruction contradicts an objective criterion (like alphabetical order) the LLM might adopt that change without scrutiny, which leads to failure, but also happens quite frequently in humans as well. It would be a [cont]

I love this.
Careful.. math is an odd thing that seems simple at first and gets more and more confusing the more you understand it... ha ha.

Our early math shows signs of its history in base-12, with 24 hour days of 60 minutes of 60 seconds, and circles of 360 degrees similarly divided.

The Sumerians had this, 12 is the number of finger segments (three for each finger) that one can count with one's thumb (4 fingers Γ 3 segments = 12)
Base 12 is REALLY close to tidy with moon cycles (12/yr) and days (nearly 360/yr lol) and 1/3 is a simple 0.4 without endless repeating digits.

that's fine, I am looking to have a conversation, not a twitter-battle. The problem I have is that is seems like a lot of "fallacy of the perfect solution" being thrown out here, and I think there is a lot of room for a person of limited means to self-teach and/or "fake it til you make it" here.

"instantly"
So you're claiming an LLM couldn't make a single correct response? I think you know that's not correct.

Let's suppose our subject has a job as the social media manager for Maple Loops.
What "challenging question" is required in this role which requires a college-level preparation to ask?
You're intentionally limiting this conversation to some cerebral workforce that doesn't exist. It's dishonest.

so what? Because you have free will it's useless?
How does the possibility of error become a disqualifying trait?

you sure managed to describe a lot of jobs while saying those aren't jobs...
They aren't any jobs I want, but that's not the point.
comment in response to

exactly, it's a tool. I've had it do some pretty cool stuff and I've also been impressed at ways it finds to fail, but Mark's right, you can use it to bullshit your way through a lot...
Also worth noting, the list of jobs is not exactly the top of the food chain... lots of strawmen out there

lol, roasted by a hundred matches π
nobody is really addressing the original thesis, they're just voicing thoughts on generative AI... I'm not feeling a hit to my self esteem over that π€£

which one of the jobs in the original post would engage this knowledge?

how did you determine "good intent"? this was literally the opposite of that

I would never hire anyone for the tasks you're doing, but it's making some sort of point I suppose...

I don't want to chill your hot take, but can you relate that back to the original premise? Did you read the list of jobs in the original post?
Say what you will about chatGPT, but it can decently stay on topic.
comment in response to

why do you equate "functional" with "sabotage proof"?
Why would someone with good intent tell the model it's wrong?
(also, 100% if you came at me like that I would respond just as chatGPT did "oh you're right, do it your way")
