Given that the Republicans have leadership & a majority in both chambers, such legislation proposals would just be symbolic efforts that won't even make it out of committee.

Give Mayor Pete a staff and a healthy budget to do daily briefings on realities and Trump’s lies. Send staffers out into the States to talk to the citizens who are being decimated by Trump. Cut those into clips and get a social media strategy that reaches people. Use Bluesky for all.
This is the first good idea I've heard in this thread. @mcuban.bsky.social Why not fund Pete? He's pretty much the only Dem who can make the GOP look like fools.
I back your idea, and I left twitter right after
F-elon purchased it due to his lack of ethics, but in cases like these, you can’t reach Trump supporters without using X or TS. Exceptions are necessary to get to his supporters.
Yeah I hear that. But I think as a default, all Dems should be on Bluesky, simply because the algorithm doesn’t seem to be as manipulated by bad actors. X and TikTok are likely being gamed right now. But you’re right. They need to be on all.
Republicans in the House brought legislation to end ACA over 10 times when they were powerless. It rallied the base. Democrats need to do something similar to keep the despair of the base at bay
Oh you’re right. Sorry. But they were still powerless. Democrats need to propose legislation like Determination of Independent Causality Karma Move - the DICK Move or Legislation On Commerce Ostensiveness - the LOCO Motion. Our base would love it and have suggestions of their own. Humor works!
I disagree. I think it’s important for our reps to get it on paper where they stand with the coup. Now, the Dems are being remembered for their inadequate response to an existential threat
They can speak out about the coup. They can be an opposition party & not vote to confirm idiots. They can hold hearings. They can speak to the media. They can act like they’re representing their constituents
They can vote no as they have been doing and they can speak to the media, which they have completely failed to do. They cannot hold hearings. No power.
They can attempt to hold hearings & get shot down then go to the media & blame the Rs for trying to hide fraud & corruption under the guise of finding fraud & corruption. Get that idea that they’re hiding something into the collective unconscious
They do, and within 1 month the United States is no longer approving of the new admin. That loss of support has to deepen and the gop has to feel it so they are more afraid of the electorate dumping them than they are of Elmo propping up a primary contest for their seat
Republicans understand communications better than liberals. When they are in the minority, they take their fight to the media sphere. Liberals need to stop patting themselves on the back for being good boys and girls who follow the rules and learn how to win.
So we just don’t try????? The democrats can slow the senate and the congress down. They can not show up and then a quorum is called and if everyone isn’t there, they can’t vote. THEY HAVE POWER. THEY JUST ARE NOT USING IT
But everyone needs to show up. And most don’t. My point is we try EVERYTHING rather than just throw our hands up and say oh well. We can’t do anything because we are in the minority
Most people will not show up as long as the changes don't impact them directly. The price of eggs matters more to most Americans than govt worker layoffs. And where is our Party leadership? Schumer can't write emails and Pelosi is falling off her heels.
I think people don’t understand how legislation works, only the the majority partycan bring legislation up and will only go to the floor if the Speaker or the Majority leader allows it to go up for a vote. Minority can’t do anything. They can only be loud like republicans are when minority.
That might change fairly quickly, in Congress, we shall see if they can win 3 red state seats, given they are farmers who Msk has cancelled their USAID so $500M in crops destroyed, many may lose their farms. We shall see.
True but, Crockett and co are gonna try, better to try and fail rather than just accept this Govt. Like I was saying, they do have reasons to change their mind of Trmp.
Oh we should try and I'm glad to see some of the young members of the House pushing back. But those seats are extremely red. Economy is still strong and it's early days. Going to be very, very hard.
I dunno, Trmp plummeted and markets are showing uncertainty as expected, it will be interesting to see by the time it occurs what position he is in then, but down to 39% was it? Either way I dont see that trajectory changing. I do take your point though. It will be good even if is just close.
Everything in Congress is recorded. Talking about what is happening, showing their constituents that they know what's happening and that they have ideas about fixing it are important. Also we are going to needs lots of ideas for proceeding after we end this.
Do you read the House & Senate record daily? That is the only way we will see most of what's going on. The major outlets are ignoring it in favor of Trump & Musk.
True enough, but let me be blunt: An historical record of the death of the American experiment in Democracy that includes a bunch of useless bills that get no hearings or votes will be cold comfort when we no longer have any rights or freedoms.
True but what every person is seeing the results of their devastating policies on every American.. firing much needed firefighters, partially closing down our national parks for lack of rangers, firing safety personnel at airports 💙💙💙💙
That’s never stopped Republicans. They keep fighting relentlessly. The entire party pushes whatever their message of the day is and repeats it over and over and over.
How about they use their money to buy lots of ads on TV (while they are still allowed) to talk (in simple words) about the lawlessness of the president and some Apartheid thug from SA and their idiots they put in charge or just some simple civic lessons? #DNC #Educate #Constitution #Law #goverment
not only are they important, in some instances they are all that matters. the republicans didn’t take control with substance and tangible results. they did it by galvanizing their base with symbolic political theater.
Symbolic efforts have had more than their fair share of positive results! They should be doing that while screaming about it to any and everyone that will listen or hear it
No it didn't. Dems passed lots of excellent legislation when we had a trifecta. And we had two Senators that were effectively Republicans. GOP made a lot of noise, but really did nothing. They were able to stop legislation only after they took the House in 2022.
Do you really see no benefit to at least creating a record they can point to and say “vote the GOP out, they wouldn’t even hear X numbers of bills to help you”?
I’m paying their salaries, I don’t want them doing nothing at all. Do you?
I read an article a couple of weeks ago where James Carville was advising Dems to stand back and let the Admin create a bad crisis…..says we can’t chase everything outrageous because that is the GOP narrative
THIS is highlighting that crisis. And the kind of bills Mark is suggesting are not like the ridiculous "stop the steal" bill which was designed to make illegal what was already illegal (?!??!?). People don't care about "institutions" bills, but 1 compelling story of a person getting screwed sells.
He was on a podcast the other day saying the Dems should stand down and let the people protest... didn't say what he recommends if they institute martial law.
Well, that’s coming. What are the Republicans going to do when he commands the soldiers to start firing into crowds of Americans? And will the soldiers do it?
He’s wrong. There’s very little the democrats can do to stop the crisis, but that doesn’t mean they should pull up a chair and watch it burn. Proposing bills that die on the table is useless, but when they can force votes on the record they need to.
The prob is that Dems have tried exactly that before, taking performative votes that everyone, including advocates, knew would fail but "would at least put the GOP on the record". And when those votes failed, everyone, advocates included...blamed Dems for not succeeding a vote they knew would fail

They are being flattened like Tar, into a paved driveway.
The problem is The Results. Democrats Can Not Stop the Republicans.
Democrats lost the House and the Senate, were Screwed, the appointee nominated is the best example ever.

They give up without a fight. Constantly. Every day should be hammering at it. Obstruct, overwhelm, something.
But with no action, you look complicit (which many Dems are btw)
If they were in the minority, they’d be gumming up the works with all manner of cockeyed proposals.
It seemed to work for them

There's no need to pass a new law. They're not following the existing one already.

No. This is just lazy.
The crazy stuff the GOP is doing now is based on that. We need to build our base.
I think I understand why people are lonely now. Asking someone out is 50/50 at best.
I can't imagine living a life where I accept the limits others put on me.
Not everything works out, but wow what a sad life to never try to do anything.
