People speak about Gazans like they are so different. A year and a half ago Waseem was an accountant in a home appliance company. He had a comfortable home- he now spent $300 to put up a tent next to its ruins. He waited this long to ask for help because he didn’t want to. He could be you or me.

NO MICROSOFT I DO NOT WANT TO SAVE THIS DOCUMENT TO ONE DRIVE. I WILL NEVER WANT TO SAVE ANYTHING TO ONE DRIVE. NOBODY BUT A GRANDMOTHER WHO DOESN"T KNOW ANY BETTER WILL EVER WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH ONE DRIVE. WHY DO YOU INSIST ON SUCKING SO BAD

It took me a very long time to learn "do your best" does not mean "give 100% effort even at the expense of your physical or mental health" or "give A+ effort even when it is clearly not appreciated or valued". Sometimes doing your best is heating up a can of soup and going to bed early.

Please share this if you live in England: Reform have been heavily targeting disabled people and carers for recruitment since Labour announced the cuts to social security. People are angry and afraid, and that's what Reform are good at. 1/ #LocalElections #CouncilElections

Delightful doodles in the parish register of St Martin, Little Stukeley, Huntingdonshire, made by Benjamin Gery, the rector/clerk c1685, including a possible self-portrait and an elephant. Found on FamilySearch. #AncestryHour

Mexican cannonball jellies is so surreal they look almost fake, with a chandelier-like mouth and deep blue color. But this species is also the target of an active & largely unregulated fishery, which collapsed around 2017. But recent posts from citizen scientists provide hope of a blueberry comeback

Lots of awesome things up for grabs, and all to support Trans Rights in the UK and South Africa. www.32auctions.com/genrefortran...

This is what happens when you leave decarbonisation to market forces and distant shareholders. Jobs will be lost, and communities will be devastated Grangemouth was a litmus test for delivering a just transition — and we failed catastrophically

I see people are still annoyed about the Gaza fundraisers. Let me make you more annoyed, maybe it will move you to say or do something: There are 116,000 tons of food (more but that's just WFP) positioned outside of the gates of Gaza. If Israel would let all the aid in, nobody would need to beg

I’m confident my book is interesting enough that even if you don’t like it, you probably won’t regret paying 99 cents and reading it!

I work in scam prevention. I want to call out something I really, really appreciated in the latest @leverageredemption.bsky.social episode: They stressed that the victim of the grandparent scam was extremely smart and capable, and that absolutely anyone can get got.

Something lovely to start the week! 🐙🏺❤️ I revisited Heraklion Archaeological Museum a few days ago to see these fabulous clay pots with octopus decoration. Made by artisans from Bronze Age Crete about 3,500 years ago! 📷 by me #Archaeology 🏺

Gaza is “on brink of catastrophe” as aid runs out and prices soar. Within hours of the ceasefire ending in March, Israel blocked food, fuel, and medicine from entering Gaza. Aid warehouses are now empty. This is collective punishment by any other name. 2 million Palestinians are being starved.

Day 117: Wha' murdah??

Disabled women know more than most how blocking access to toilets isn’t a minor inconvenience - it’s a form of segregation from everyday life. It is turning down drinks with friends as you worry you can’t fulfil a basic human need if you go out. And knowing society has made the choice not to care.

Okay today has been... several kinds of terrible, but fortunately a) I cannot be killed by such ordinary means and b) a friend bought me a SECOND SHARK BED with a MUCH funnier face than the original and, well, it's got kind of a weird shadow in it already --

Redownloaded bsky for my phone so I could share these pictures of my dog with his mandated donut

I'm helping Tasneem and her family raise the funds they need to escape the escalating horror of Gaza. Please give if you can at the link. And there are many others in need, even if it's simply spreading the word and being a voice for the voiceless 🙏 www.gofundme.com/f/help-tasne...

Anyang Museum in Henan Province finished restoration on a local tomb mural depicting a black and white cat (note the bell collar!). Belonging to official Zhao Yigong, the tomb was completed in 829 CE; it's thought to be the earliest Chinese tomb mural of a domestic cat. #caturday

HOW DID SHE GET IN TO MY MOISTURISER

Enjoyed Doctor Who! Very effective sound use

Absolutely nobody asked for this but I reformatted my animal yeetability thread into printable poster & zine files. Introducing, the "Pocket Guide to Responsible & Sustainable Animal YEETING" featuring a revamped rating system. Download links below.

In terms of the EHRC being an entirely reactionary organisation, it's worth remembering that they have repeatedly refused to launch an investigation into benefit deaths - www.disabilitynewsservice.com/equality-wat...

great thread on how to do bystander intervention so that you and the victim get out of the situation safely and smoothly, as is the goal. your role as the "friend" is to be between the TERF and her victim, have safety in numbers, and show the victim she's not alone, not to be the one yelling instead

I am terrified about all this, but it's also worth noting that it's unlikely to end with benefits claimants. I honestly think this is yet another case of the right piloting unwarranted intrusions into citizens' lives on stigmatised population. Hmmm, where else have we heard that this week?

Reviewers/booksellers/librarians, ICYMI. Want to read a fantasy story about a magic circus with an intersex lead?

How on earth do you go about explaining to people that your life will not get better or even change at all in any tangible way because of what the Supreme Court and EHRC have said, but my life and those of many of my pals will get worse?

Holy moly this match! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 V 🇮🇪

The EHRC was captured by transphobes under the Tories and Labour could have appointed a new head but they did not, because they are also transphobic. Bigoted shits, the lot of them.

Looks like there is another fundraiser for specific action by GLP against the government minister, Phillipson over the adoption of EHRC "guidance" It has just hit £60K, which in legal terms is not much, especially since the government will try and spin out any case to increase costs. Please donate

For people wondering why the UK's Equality And Human Rights Commission is acting counter to human rights, I'll c+p a combination of threads from a couple of years ago. They cover the systemic attack on many marginalised communities by idealogues trying to dismantle human rights law. 1/

Last of my two days in Lille. We visited La Piscine in Roubaix, a museum inside a former Art Deco swimming pool. Gorgeous building, gorgeous art!

I really need you all to appreciate how magnificent the cat at the Latvian Railway Museum is. Not pictured: all the toddlers he hissed at and made cry when they tried to approach him. Their own fault. He was on guard by the door. He clearly takes this shit seriously.

Two photos by Carl Van Vechten of Ella Fitzgerald, absolutely unequaled songstress born on this day in 1917. You can view all of Van Vechten's portraits of Ella Fitzgerald on the website of Yale's Beinecke Library here: collections.library.yale.edu/catalog/2018...

Today is my favourite bank holiday in Portugal: on the 25th of April, 1974, the Portuguese military went out to the streets and toppled four decades of Fascist dictatorship. Firing no shots, they instead put carnations at the end of their guns, hence the Carnation Revolution. 1/6
