“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath 50 reasons to want more walkable streets.

Of all things, why would you gut NOAA? Hurricane warnings are political now?

The U.S. has two tsunami warning centers, both operated by NOAA. Employees were terminated from these centers today. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center covers Hawaiʻi, and now it is less safe to be near the beach. www.tsunami.gov

Hey Atlanta, if you see these conditions in the morning, don’t drive. Temps will be in the mid-teens in the morning, untreated roads will remain a sheet of ice. You will crash, possibly into another person who doesn’t understand friction #Atlanta

Solution is more population density, more transit.

Urban densification in the streetcar suburbs. Also a blue sky

MARTA finally has merchandise. There is something irresistible about public transit branded apparel. For transparency, I work at MARTA, but have nothing to do with this initiative (other than cheer for its creation)

Oh, hey! I see a lot of you asking "Has anybody made a starter pack for X?" You should know there's a searchable directory, and you can find all your communities so easily! Pass it on! blueskydirectory.com/starter-pack...

WATCH: The BEST public art is MORE than just art — it’s functional too. This really smart integrated art in a recent project in central OSLO draws you in, supports both place-making and way-finding, and reveals all the mid-block nooks & crannies that you might NEVER know about without that art!

SEPTA just released this fact sheet: THE FISCAL CLIFF IS NOW

Los Angeles: Joe Linton at streetsblog analyzes transit ridership growth, finds it correlates to better service, new bus lanes, and pedestrian improvements. la.streetsblog.org/2024/11/07/m...

Without housing density nearby, transit ridership will struggle

STUDY: Cars are rewiring our brains to ignore all the bad stuff about driving. “A new study reveals how unconscious bias leads us to neglect negative externalities of driving. You may call it ‘car brain,’ but this research team calls it motonormativity.”

Headed to TRB conference, should be able to do it by foot and public transit, door to door. First leg, walk to MARTA rail.

Affordable housing needs public transit, and public transit relies on population density. Aligning dense development with public transit access should be much more prominent in both the housing and transit policy conversations.
