It got me thinking that maybe accents themselves aren't completely arbitrary, but they also convey the culture itself.

Yeah, people are wired to try to save money on functionally useful things vs. things that makes them feel good.
I think big tech companies making software free and making money off users in other ways has also led to people to expect it to be free.

Interesting thoughts. It makes me wonder if maybe people are more okay with parting with money for entertainment purposes, too. But also, if there's the parasocial aspect to it. Giving money to entertainers feels like giving it to a "friend" or a potential friend.

I love how much Japanese games from that era just straight up lifted or homaged things the developers liked. It just reminds you these were just nerdy fans as well.

Kinda obvious to me now, but I learned Google search ads are great for hitting lots of people, but it's very easy to waste money on markets that would never give you any money.

I've heard of it, but haven't tried it. I'll look into creating a post there! tx

It's generating more interest than my index cards app. I think it's something everybody understands and could use, vs. the other app, which is more specialized.

I'm realizing that trying to build a successful business really isn't about any one thing that makes a huge splash. It's about hundreds of little things that slowly and consistently increases sales over a long period. Obvs, having something go viral would be huge, though, but you can't rely on it.

Yep, I think so. You end up at a farm with the crazy machines hooked up to those people. Weird mission.

Reminds me of the mission in Cyberpunk with the cow milker

I enjoy the internet but I think it is fundamentally changing our perception of reality, going from more material, reality-based experiences to one constructed by algorithms and “the crowd”.

Thanks!
If this app makes me a million dollars I'll make an android version, how about that? lol

It truly is dismal that "content" now is just an SEO capture tool or a means of delivering ads to captured viewers. Even non-AI generated stuff like youtube videos covering movies and TV series are just regurgitations of wikipedia articles (so not truly "original content"), but they sadly work.

It's definitely tough to walk away from your work and say "good enough". There's always more stuff you can tweak to make it better, but at some point it's just diminishing returns.

That's unfortunate to have that association lol. He seems like a guy I would be friends with based on interviews I've seen.
