Saterland Frisian? I'd be surprised if a West Frisian one doesn't exist, but I'd like to see a more obscure Frisian language.
If I get more than one option: Upper Sorbian

When I see this on American politicians my reaction tends to be "What is going on? Oh right, Ash Wednesday exists"

I grew up in a pretty religious family (e.g. my mother considered it important that we get the blessing of Saint Blaise) in a majority-Catholic village. I don't recall ever seeing the ash cross on people outside of Mass and the way back home after.

It's by far the most prominent party named after a person in Germany, the only other examples I can think of are Team Zastrow (FDP splinter group in Saxony, mostly in/around Dresden) and Team Todenhöfer (no idea how to describe them, en & de wiki say neoliberal pacifist anti-militarist populist)

The CDU of today is to the right of the CDU under Merkel though
comment in response to
post
How much green and progressive policy is actually possible with a party that simultaneously very clearly hints that it wishes to be in a coalition with the CDU? A CDU which is considerably more right wing than Merkel's CDU, mind you. (Otherwise there'd be no gap to fill)
comment in response to
post
Though as of late, there has been too much movement towards the right within that party for my taste, especially regarding immigration. While probably the least bad of the more deportations crowd, that and stuff like Habeck wanting to fill the gap left by Merkel didn't feel great to me

I'd say it's especially bad in Saxony and Thuringia
comment in response to

Depends on which part of the CDU. While this might be broadly true for the CDU on a federal level, in last year's state election in Saxony Kretschmer (CDU, Ministerpräsident of Saxony) claimed that AfD and BSW copied his position on Russia. There's very Putin friendly elements within that party

Saxons and Swabians happy about somehow not being in that list

France and the Netherlands arguably create some white-red-white (just like Estonia and Spain create accidental second Germany)
comment in response to
post
Somehow I feel like this will make the bad elements of the CDU (e.g. Saxony, Thuringia) even worse. While this might result in something vaguely Merkel-esque for the federal government, it could also cause some very cursed state governments
comment in response to
post
Given the way certain parties behave, I'd say that at least some states (Saxony) would have a significant amount of pro-occupation people. Maybe I'm a bit pessimistic after experiencing last year's state election with the BSW-AfD-CDU fight over who loves Putin the most. Tangentially related image
comment in response to

Look at the bright side, there's always hope that instead of a coalition involving the AfD we might get the return of the GroKo but way more right wing than last time

I see, "Touring Car" (RS5 DTM Turbo is a good choice though)
anyway, here's my selection

There are some things for which I always think in German numbers (e.g. calculating, millions onwards), I also found that if I have to count something while hearing somebody talk English or German I tend to count in the other language.

True, not all countries in the categories I mentioned are likely, I just wanted to list all the countries within these two "already somewhat close to the EU" categories

You could also look at the non-EU EEA members (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein)
(Though if we consider Liechtenstein we might as well consider the monetary agreement Euro users (Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican)

(This might be in part because I personally know somebody with a grandparent who held an influential position in a fascist regime, yet politically they are nowhere near Elon or von Storch, to name another example)
comment in response to
post
While the Grandparents are an interesting little fact, I always find it a bit weird when such things get brought up as criticism, especially when their own actions are more than enough to come to the conclusion, which in this case is that Elon is a Nazi

I would however say that with Scholz there's arguably more bad Hamburg related stuff than Russia related stuff
comment in response to
post
To be fair though, Scholz, who was minister of finance and vice chancellor of said cabinet, had some weird positions regarding Nord Stream 2, so while it does get worse among high ranking SPD members he's not necessarily great regarding Russia
