LA NACION - María Victoria Murillo: “Hoy el peronismo está detenido en el tiempo y sin una nueva narrativa” - www.lanacion.com.ar/ideas/maria-...

Breaking News: Columbia University’s interim president resigned, one week after the school accepted demands from the Trump administration.

My friend @davidlat.bsky.social just published an email Paul Weiss chair Brad Karp sent to the firm. This excerpt is the most chilling. This is how constitutional republics die -- when rivals see a violation of fundamental rights not as an injustice, but as a business opportunity:

I feel the need to reup @epopppp.bsky.social's endowments explainer. Endowment funds can't be swapped in for billions of dollars in federal funding of scientific and medical research. It's important to be clear-eyed about that. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/no-univers...

Thank you to Princeton's president, Christopher Eisgruber: "The Trump administration’s recent attack on Columbia University...present[s] the greatest threat to American universities since the Red Scare of the 1950s. Every American should be concerned." www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Total agreement with my brilliant colleagues. Please read their post and help as you can before faculty at another university have to write a similar letter.

“Imagine the chief executives of America’s top universities and richest corporations…issued a public statement that spoke clearly and loudly about the dangers…” Those who speak out will at least put themselves on the right side of history. www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/w...

Am encouraged to see this from my political science colleagues at Columbia. It would be real nice to see the political science profession via @apsa.bsky.social etc taking a stance.

1/🧵 Judges across ideological lines are ruling against Trump at strikingly similar rates (84% liberal, 86% centrist, 82% conservative). This isn't partisan opposition to Trump—it's the judiciary functioning as intended by cutting across partisan lines to uphold the Constitution.

GUEST POST: We Are Professors at Columbia. Here is How We Would Respond. open.substack.com/pub/danieldr...

Chilling report from Brown University. Administration advises all foreign students, staff, and faculty to postpone or reconsider (ie cancel) international travel, due to federal government's crackdown on universities. Brown also warns against *domestic travel* -since it's unclear what ICE will do.

You may not recognize it at first, but life in this country will never be the same if people stop coming from abroad because they are not guaranteed protection under the law. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/16/u...

This piece by French on the broad risks to free speech and democracy involved on the fight on Columbia www.nytimes.com/2025/03/16/o...

Before Mahmoud Khalil's detention last week, ICE came for a Columbia PhD student. She had nothing to do with the Gaza protests, but was arrested last spring during a roundup while trying to walk home. Charges were dismissed. The State Department still revoked her visa.

1/ So this Fulbright scholar wasn’t a protest organizer or even participant, got kettled coming back to campus and released, had liked some posts about human rights and signed an open letter, and DHS came to her door three times to arrest and deport her www.nytimes.com/2025/03/15/n...

Some of my Columbia Law School colleagues and I offer our thoughts on legal issues with the Administration's March 13, 2025 letter to our University's president, and its threat to academic freedom. balkin.blogspot.com/2025/03/a-ti...

So am I understanding correctly that the GOP threatened to defund DC of its own money if they didn't tear up the BLM thing And then DC tore up the BLM thing And now the GOP is defunding them anyway

I’m told this is a real letter. It basically says, “We’ll destroy Columbia unless you destroy it first.”

All universities should stand with Columbia university. It can’t flight this madness alone.

Hey academic friends — universities need to stand together in the face of this onslaught. Please help mobilize your faculties, boards of trustees, etc to get your university’s leadership to stand with those already getting hit. Hiding won’t work. They are coming for you next.

This is not about fighting antisemitism. This is all about silencing opposing views. Today it’s pro-Palestine, tomorrow it’s pro-Ukraine, and then it’s just deporting whomever they don’t like. And then everyone is silent.

The witch hunt is on. Can report first-hand that the arrest of Khalil has international students and faculty justifiably terrified. More than one person cried in my office today. I cry too for this country. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/10/o...

Merz just said on German TV that the primary priority of his government will be to ensure that Europe can achieve full strategic independence from the United States in the defence against Russia. Merz was once a die hard Atlanicist. Now, after Trump he is a Gaullist. Extraordinary.
