It makes me sad to hear you've had experiences that aren't affirming! Every therapist I've had has often approached problems by affirming my feelings and urging me to distance myself from people and situations that cause me distress.

the computer broke almost immediately, as well as several others conencted to it in the IT room. now, this was likely because it was a virus, but my friend turned to me and said very seriously "the chao is alive. and its roaming around cyberspace and knocking stuff over accidently and breaking it."

In a way it makes sense for middle aged men to be incurious about the present day culture in and around Japan; None of them are capable of challenging anything about the 80s or their childhoods and react violently to change.
