Should be refused on the grounds of location in a conservation zone, & the protection of children & vulnerable people from being exploited by gambling. The location is only metres away from pubs & gambling whilst intoxicated leads to larger bets & rapid loss of funds. onthewight.com/green-counci...

FOR TEENS - an evening just aimed for older children. Only £4 entry for this Thursday which covers you for all the performances and workshops (first come first served). Highly recommend! There I am, 'looking forward' to a half term of marking essays, leading revision sessions, and creating revision booklets... and I get this! Scrap OFSTED. Please.

Greens call for Ofsted to be abolished. Quote from @vixxl.bsky.social in today’s @theguardian.com www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

Unions and school leaders have said that Ofsted's new 'report card' will be worse than the current system. The Green Party has always been clear - Ofsted doesn't work for students, teachers or parents and should be scrapped in favour of a more collaborative model.

Abolish OFSTED. www.theguardian.com/education/20...

Green Party respond to suggested tweaks to Ofsted testing regime. This is from our education spokesperson @vixxl.bsky.social: “Ofsted isn’t working. For teachers or parents. We’ve seen the toxic impact it can have on teachers and we know it doesn’t serve children." 1/

The only single word judgment needed: ScrapOfsted 💚

A week in my classroom: 🏫Osborne House 🩵Protecting Patroclus 🏚Victorian slums 🕌Partition of Bengal 🌋Volcanic hazards 😐Death of Stalin 🧙Witchcraze ✊️Is feminism old fashioned? 💥Suez crisis

On BBC Solent earlier talking about Trump and Climate Change. His policies - withdrawing from Paris agreement, scrapping electric vehicle targets, ending support for clean energy - are what we should expect from a political leader funded by the fossil fuel industry....

The media's new years resolution should be to talk less about the hate-filled conspiracy crew, and more about the inspiring Greens fighting for real change all across the country.

"AI to help teachers plan lessons and mark homework" - how will AI mark my A Level essays? - I'm sure it can make PowerPoints, but will they be engaging? Fun? - if you take the creative stuff away from teaching (a real draw for me as a teacher) then what's left? Just discipline?

💚The Green Party Policy Fest 2025 starts tomorrow!💚 Online and lasting a whole week, there are nearly 40 different sessions to choose to attend. Whether you're interested in finance and the economy, animals rights, housing, land use, gambling, transport, wildlife or ....

A so-called #SmackingBan - protecting children from assault - is long-time @TheGreenParty policy. And as I told #HouseofLords in 2021, long overdue in England (already have in Scotland and Wales) nataliebennett.org/latest/domes...

2024 - so many photos, so many hats! With my councillor and IW East MP candidate hat on, this was an amazing year. Hard not to feel emotional about it all. So many causes to support, including Ventnor after the massive landslip, the Solent CO2 pipeline campaign & our primary schools facing closure.

Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill is offering some welcome reforms: - standardising teacher pay - ending forced academisation - empowering councils to open new schools - limiting branded uniforms - free breakfast clubs Plus unique identification numbers & home education register... 🤔

This Thursday, 19th December at 6pm in the Full Circle restaurant in St Mary's Hospital #IsleofWight there will be a carol service. A small choir - including myself - will be singing. You are all very welcome to attend. It's a lovely service.

What's my low light of 2024? Threats of redundancies on the #IsleofWight (Vestas and primary schools). #BBC #PoliticsSouth

Should we be supporting our NHS, Education and other public sector staff with more than the 2.8% recommended increase? My views shared on today's Politics South. 💚

This week we will hear the results of the public consultation and IW Council officers' recommendation with regards to the closure of 6 primary schools on the Isle of Wight. Thinking of all my primary school colleges, parents, children and their village communities. A difficult week.

I'm pleased that the Assisted Dying Bill is going forward, and will get the next level of scrutiny. We really need much more discussion about end of life care.

You're all invited to share this lovely service with us 🎵🎄

Reliance on high stakes exams will always result in attempts to get around such a system. Extra time, rest breaks & additional supportive spaces are important for many young people sitting exams. But access *must* be a matter of equality and need - not whether you went to private school.

Green Party takes control of Lancaster Council! 👏👏👏 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Listening to the taxing private schools debate, some MPs are opposing on peculiar basis of providing "our children" with good education. But only ~6% can afford private school, so I'll be voting for a wider definition of "our" children who deserve a good education: ALL children.

Another top day on the Isle of Wight. In Ryde, a catch up with the exciting Department capital project; in Newport, Platform One’s sustainable fashion work at Wadham’s & a visit to Boojum & Snark’s Regatta Hat Project exhibition at Quay Arts. Some serious plans being laid this side of the Solent.

Infuriated. No support for a ban on bailing out water companies nor for public ownership. Just Jenny & @nataliegreenpeer.bsky.social plus the wonderful Prem Sikka in favour. (Oh and 82% of the public.) A vote was pointless. It was the 3 of us against Labour, Tory, Lib Dem and Crossbench apathy.

Today is Equal Pay Day, when women effectively stop being paid compared to their male colleagues. We would require all large and medium-size companies to carry out equal pay audits and redress any inequality uncovered. Equal pay for equal work should not be too much to ask.

🎄Yes we can still celebrate Christmas. 🥾Yes we must support our farmers, esp after an awful last few years. 💰Yes we must stop tax avoiders (who shout very loud about it). 💣No, nuclear weapons are a bad idea.

Jeremy Clarkson is turning up to the protest tomorrow. A reminder that he bought his 312-acre farm in 2012 for £4.25million in HIS OWN WORDS so that he: *would not be required pay death duties on the land*

Carla Denyer, "Labour have been handed a tough opening hand. But I also feel that in several areas they've tied their own hands behind their back" @carladenyer.bsky.social "Rejecting a wealth tax.. Two child benefit cap... Winter fuel allowance.. Rejecting renationalisation of water companies"

It's Christmas....!🎄🎅🎁🎅🎄

Meeting Sir Isaac Newton was not on my bingo card today! #RobertHookeSociety #Freshwater #IsleofWight

I cannot take my eyes off her. So fierce!

👀 Look out for Green MP Ellie Chowns on Question Time tonight. 📺 9pm on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds or BBC1 at 10.40pm. #bbcqt

Your face after a 12 hour day at work! (Best job ever, and got to share it with 100s of others at the open evening tonight. Hope to see you all next year!)
