One thing I really hope CRPGs in future borrow from Baldur's Gate 3 is the Dark Urge origin. That is, an option to say 'I want my own custom character but I also want my own personal quest and backstory and for the DM to fuck me up sometimes'. An option to tell the game 'I trust you. Cut loose'.
