Ameca was "viral" so now others try to imitate the look, there even were a number of "grey faces". Now, in China, EX Robotics' "mechanical body" look got popular, so others imitate it, up to doing stuff like covering otherwise silicone body with "plastic looking" cloth (CST does this).

So far I couldn't find any details what kind of a place it is, a temporary exhibition, a museum, a showroom with restricted access. There were earlier mentions of this term in Chinese media coinciding with robotics exhibitions in Beijing last year, but again, with no details.

The supposedly oldest video file in my "robotics" folder where I keep stuff related to robotics, is called "necoro1.mpg", but in this case I know the source, it's this page, online, it has that video linked. pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/article... It is labeled as being made "16 October 2001 at 7:57"

It really is a "hidden gem" of a museum. For me perhaps the main "lesser known" artifact there at the museum was the original android robot head of Fumio Hara lab at Tokyo University of Science, one of the first android robots in academia, donated by Fumio Hara himself. bsky.app/profile/voka...

This Nadine is of significance because this is the only publicly accessible android robot in the whole of Europe (although there are also animatronics which can be counted as android robots, but this Nadine is pretty much the only one which fits the full definition including interactivity).

This Nadine I filmed what is now five years ago pretty much. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKWC... I also had an own overview of the museum as a side-note www.youtube.com/watch?v=biDA...

As I haven't linked "Sawarimoto" before, here it is: "Sawarimōto: A Vision and Touch Sensor-based Method for Automatic or Tele-operated Android-to-human Face Touch" dl.acm.org/doi/abs/10.1...

As the key developer behind @masiro-project.bsky.social ponders — the expo's policy sounds inconsistent, as if the wheeled robots might be treated as luggage and thus restricted by size, but not legged robot perhaps x.com/A_says_/stat...

I'm more into android robotics, and while it wasn't as "big" as in humanoid robotics or software side of things, it feels like both r&d is picking up (there was a sort of a slump in the field ever since it became obvious Toshiba failed with their project five or so years ago)
