The French would like to thank the UK for funding to them. 2020 - 2024: EDF owned by the French state made £91bn operating profit in the UK, subsidises French households/industry. UK govts oppose public ownership but happy to let foreign govts own UK infrastructure, export billions of profits.

Wow! The number of @bsky.app users just passed 34 MILLION! 👏 LETS DO THIS!

Govt may be relieved that UK faces lower Trump tariffs than others but it’s a trap. A deal with the unreliable lunatic means lowering standards, betraying our farmers and undermining trust and compatibility for any EU reset which is far more valuable to us. Let’s not fuck this up too. (Letter,Times)

This is called being held to ransom. Forcing substandard food which is incredibly bad for health and animals and the environment but also puts our farms out of business will ensure total loss of control! www.lbc.co.uk/news/uk/buy-...

In a "Fact Sheet" published alongside his tariffs, Donald Trump made clear that Britain would have to accept hormone-raddled beef and chlorine-washed chicken as part of a deal to remove his punitive tariffs. Starmer better not roll over and surrender! www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/...

Staggering

In 1856, Britain invented the mass-produced steel industry with the introduction of the Bessemer process. By the end of 2025, it won't have a steel industry left.

The TV show Adolescence is being weaponised in the effort to ban phones and social media for kids – but this only highlights the UK's abject failure to build online spaces that aren't manipulated by algorithmic gamification.

🚨 Drug shortages hit a four-year high thanks to Brexit! Drug companies reported supply issues 1,938 times in 2023—worst since 2021. Patients & NHS are paying the price. How much more damage before the govt admits Brexit is failing and costing lives? www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Yorkshire Water to pay £40m for sewage dumping. Company has history of criminal convictions. Fine will be used to upgrade infrastructure, clean rivers. So company won't have to spend, but will own the resulting infrastructure. There is no penalty?

76% of voters who backed the Conservative party at the last general election told YouGov that they supported reaching Net Zero by 2050. Today Kemi Badenoch abandoned the policy. bylinetimes.com/2025/03/18/k...

Extraordinary moment — Nancy Pelosi issues a statement calling on Democratic senators to reject the House funding bill, i.e. to defy Chuck Schumer. "Democratic senators should listen to the women," she says, referring to Murray/DeLauro who want a 1-month stopgap bill instead.

It would be a travesty if Labour reversed the ban on live animal exports and weakened animal welfare protections. The Prime Minister must make upholding animal welfare standards a red line in negotiations. inews.co.uk/news/politic...

This actually tells you a lot.

UK govt plan to snoop 24/7 on bank accounts of benefit recipients would apply to others. If money paid into a joint account or direct to a landlord, they will be snooped on together with their business and other accounts. Govt assumes that all old, sick, disabled, poor are criminals.

Jeez. JD Vance now calling UK 'some random country that hasn't fought war in 30 years'

Only two countries have committed peace-keeping troops. The UK and France. Absurdly dishonest, indeed. ~AA

“So far we have not seen any sign that President Putin has any genuine will to negotiate a lasting agreement. On the contrary, a week ago on Monday, on the third anniversary of Russia's invasion, Russia launched the so far largest drone attack” Elina Valtonen Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland

Catherine and her cat from Zaporizhzhia. She spent 5 hours under the rubble of her house, destroyed by a Russian missile. All this time she has been hugging her cat. P.S. Sorry she didn't wear a suit.

The US VP clearly missed his 20th century history lessons... UK MPs condemn ‘deeply disrespectful’ JD Vance comments www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

The debacle in the white house with Zelensky has prompted the Italians to organise a cross party pro European demonstration in Rome ("no party flags, only blue flags"). One of the slogans is "we make Europe or we die". Hopefully this galvanises people! www.ildiariodellavoro.it/una-piazza-p...

The Covid Inquiry's decision not to call PPE suppliers to give evidence smacks of a whitewash. Inadequate PPE killed thousands while enriching a few wealthy individuals. Now, those individuals are being protected from public scrutiny. news.sky.com/story/potent...

I am sorry to be cynical but I've come to think it's how Britain works: the purpose of these things is to convey a perception, but only a perception, that we want to expose wrongdoing. The truth is, I assume because we think public confidence in our institutions is more important, we really don't.

Keir Starmer visited the US headquarters of Palantir – who are “excited to further transform UK public services and defense capability”. What public services are those? And what will that mean for our data and the NHS?

words I never imagined writing in my lifetime..... General Sir Richard Shirreff, the former Nato deputy supreme allied commander in Europe, has told Times Radio: "I think we have to assume, after the events of the last 10 days, that we cannot in any way count on America as an ally"

No doubt to Trump's annoyance, thanks to far-sighted act of Biden administration in its final days (distinct from earlier in the war) Ukraine was sent huge quantities of American weapons, enough to keep it going for the next 5-6 months or so. Trump can still ruin Kyiv, but it's got a buffer for now.

Goodall is one of the few commentators who can transmit the appropriate “fuck this” outrage about Trump although he’s too much of a pro to say “fuck this”

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that US President Trump is living in a Russian 'disinformation space' He’s absolutely right

Five more water companies in England appeal against Ofwat’s curb on bill rises. OFWAT permitted average price rise of 36%. They want more People can't appeal, have to pay up, put up with sewage in rivers, exploitation. Corporations rule and no one is protecting people.

Privatisation of the NHS US private equity and UK pension fund USS make bid for NHS landlord Assura. Assura was set up in 2003, owns more than 600 healthcare buildings worth £3bn. NHS burdened with rent. This is in addition to PFI payments. Less spent on front line services. archive.ph/QRaGZ
