I have found some of the most wonderful kind people running small grocery shops. And I'm saving money doing so.
To do that though, Bluesky needs things like FB groups and an end to the short tweet limit. I can get off X, I cannot leave FB because of the valuable groups that I am on there that cover a number of subjects and tightly moderate the content to avoid the shitshow that is X and open FB.
I boggles my mind that I already have over 2000 followers. I'm no influencer, but it's great to know that people are seeing my posts. Thank you, BlueSky, for an algorithm that doesn't depend on paying large amounts of cash to Elon!
Facebook marketplace has also overtaken the states as the go-to place to buy and sell used goods. It's tough not having access to it. We need something similar here as well.
It's the old people and family.. plus ease of group chat. If there was an actual comparable site people would migrate. IMO FB has taken the place of phone calls and letters and become the number 1 way to communicate with friends and family.
And also the dead ppl.... Who's words you can still read in old posts etc ... It's very hard to just delete your access to your dead mother's voice messages etc

If Bsky could find a way to grab our social graphs from FB, I would dump it in a minute. I don't even use FB anymore but there are many contacts I have there which I have no other way to reach.
Bluesky will end up just the same as the dead bird site in a couple of years time. The only one not corporate controlled is Mastodon. And it can never be bought because it's over thousands of instances/servers.
It's not difficult. It's just different. Just give it 3-4 days and you would be at it like an old pro. Just avoid the https://mastodon.social instance as it's too large to be properly moderated and it's like the wild west there.
Definitely feels like this platform has plateaued the last few months. A few big accounts I used to follow on Twitter came over but have slunk back over there sadly.
Progress is still being made for sure, just much more slowly than last year. Which to me is baffling considering everything that has gone on around Musk.
I don't know if I'd even say that because monthly active has been going down. It might be that people's attention has shifted from the problems with X because there's so much else going on even just with Musk. Or maybe we're at a point where most users are flowing somewhere other than BSky.
Most of the interaction numbers on twitter are inflated due to the bots, so anyone staying as they don't want to lose their numbers are kidding themselves.
And that's aside from Musk, blue ticks, spam bots etc making it an awful experience.
Very true but I am thinking in particular of sports teams. Most Premier League clubs have created accounts here use them nowhere near the extent of Twitter. Things like that are also what keep 'normal' users from making the jump.
Same with News outlets like the BBC etc not having a presence here.
Honestly donβt miss the BBC overall as theyβre so unreliable on news.

Use the following feed and follow a lot more accounts. Use starter packs to find accounts that may be of interest. Follow 250 - 300, or more accounts to get best experience.
I think social media will collapse across the board unless someone comes up with a novel alternative that isn't just a cheap clone of something people are already getting exhausted by tbh. X is a hollow parasocial experience. Bluesky is also a hollow parasocial experience, only smaller and hollower.
