Music venues need to get their shit together around disabled access. The Ally Pally has a 10,250 capacity with 1 accessible toilet. They failed to provide arranged access accommodations for multiple people. Reviewed on Euan’s Guide after l left before the end of Frank Turner 3000th gig in tears.

The CPAC stage is literally shaped like a rune the SS “Race and Resettlement” officers used. They’re out in the open. They’re Nazis.

I am so sick of this shit. It’s a Sieg Heil. It’s a Nazi salute. Anyone who sees it knows. It’s ridiculous that legal departments presumably won’t let media call it what it is. Bannon made “a provocative gesture that resembled the salute Elon Musk gave at a post-inauguration rally”? Fuck off.

French far-right leader Jordan Bardella canceled planned remarks at CPAC today, after ex-Trump adviser Steve Bannon made a "gesture referring to Nazi ideology," according to a statement to French news agency Agence France-Presse.

I'm gonna keep reposting examples of people not taking shit because it's important for us to see that you can, simply, reject the shit. Say "Uh... no no no, we will not be tolerating that."

If you don’t befriend the cantankerous ghost that inhabits it, then are you really supporting your local library?

Colloquially emailing a colleague: “Do you have any insights, or am I pissing into the wind with this one?” Hm, I’d better not write that… *googles* “Do you have any insights, or am I farting in a windstorm with this one?” Yeah, no, that’s not better!

It’s a day of the week with a ‘y’ in it, so I’m emailing a venue to ask about accessibility…

Hill Forts Wednesday?! Sign me up!

Updating my website. Didn’t actually write “if you get angry about things being ‘woke’, this ain’t for you” but I implied it strongly.

I visited the gravestone of Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin yesterday. Her remains aren’t there anymore, but I still wanted to go. @naomialderman.bsky.social ‘s podcast Human Intelligence episode about her explains why better than I can.

more of this please

A horrible case of weaponised transphobia. A nurse who bullies a trans colleague cannot be considered a safe person to provide care. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Just another yell into the void to implore folk to wear a f’cking mask in public when you’ve got a cold! The one time I left the house last week was to attend a mandatory in-person university meeting, and I’m now coughing up my asthmatic lungs on my week off. Not. Happy.

We're celebrating, as ever, the start of Super Bowl 2025 with this Superb Owl. 🦉

Delighted to have been able to see the memorial to Jane Austen while I was there

I’d never seen a transi, or cadaver, tomb before. The head verger at Winchester Cathedral very kindly led me into the closed off section after the gig last night to see Bishop Fox’s. The premise was accepting the decay of the living body and focusing on the immortal soul. Memento mori!

I put faery lights on my crutches for gigs because it significantly reduces the frequency of being knocked into in low light. And it look cool as heck. Being disabled is punk rock!

When you spend a good while drawing an Egyptian inspired Victorian cemetery motif, only to discover it looks like a pilot badge when you’re done…

Absolutely this

“An exhilarated hatred now parades as freedom, while the freedoms for which many of us have struggled for decades are distorted and trammeled as morally repressive ‘wokeism’.” Judith Butler on the first few weeks of Trumpism

This is what revisionist history looks like, in real time. And this also is why it might appear that archaeologists and historians have to dig deep to discover the existence of powerful women and marginalized groups -- because their legacies are so often erased.

This whole moment in time, every single thing about this is an absolute fucking shanda. And the number of people who will suffer and die because of a handful of angry rich white men, and the craven bootlickers willing to do their bidding, is beyond comprehension. Throw. Sand. In. The. Gears.

Gum up the works

Over 50% of nonviolent movements to overthrow governments are successful within one year of their peak. The key is to engage over 3.5% of the country, a cross-section of society—clergy, kids, grandmas, teachers) using DIVERSE & CREATIVE tactics, with women in leadership. We can do this. More:

“They are deliberately attempting to trigger a trauma response so that we are less able to respond from our whole selves and more likely to just go along with whatever's happening. We must do what we can to stay clear and connected and whole…”

Approximately 20 members of Elon Musk’s staff have begun working within the Education Department. They have gained access to multiple sensitive internal systems, including a financial aid dataset containing the personal information of millions of students enrolled in the federal student aid program.

Lovely to see friends coming over to this app. Please enjoy a piece of one of my friends’ art, which among all the awfulness I keep posting about is a reminder to keep creating 💜

My entire professional life is about diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia. I’m also a researcher with multiple protected characteristics based in gender studies. I’m so afraid for our collective future.

I’m having real trouble focussing today when this shit is happening

It’s gone 2am, I should be asleep, but here I am, reading about Trump, Musk, et al’s wave upon wave of destruction and the swift removal of anyone who stands in their way. insidemedicine.substack.com/p/breaking-n...

CDC data. Trans and non-binary people will not, cannot, be erased.

It’s official: Elon Musk’s staffers have now illegally obtained classified information from the USAID office. Here’s a recap of what’s happening:

I had the privilege to sing with Karine Polwart and her band as part of The Back of the Winter Choir at Celtic Connections yesterday. They said we could wear whatever we wanted, so I wore my Palestinian keffiyeh.

I wrote a piece last year about the accusations of “wokeness” made against the National Trust, and Kathy Burke’s point stands: people who are “anti-woke” are ignorant f’cking twats.

Three years ago, Judith Butler predicted in a Guardian interview that “gender-critical” feminists would not be part of the fight against fascism. This caused a massive “GC” backlash, prompting The Guardian to censor the interview. And yet here they now are, definitively proving Butler correct.

Nice interactions: the disabled nod of acknowledgement (IYKYK), the good natured and non awkward negotiation between me and a wheelchair user over right of way through a tight space, and my cool goth crutches being complimented.

Also, people who say “what have you done to yourself?” need to get in the bin. It’s gross and intrusive. Injuries are not casual chat with strangers, and nor are disabilities.

I was using my crutches in town today. It’s been over 10 months since I last used crutches, and the difference in how people act around me when I’m more visibly disabled is kinda huge. Ableism’s wild.

It’s 2:45am and my brain just woke me up with two zine ideas and a cool photography project. Brain, pal, we’ve got work in 6 hours…

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a declassified World War II-era CIA guide to sabotaging fascism in the workplace has become one of the most popular free ebooks on the internet: www.404media.co/declassified...

I overshot my last Masters essay by 1000 words, which I realised an hour before the deadline. That was… some intense editing.

It sometimes seems like assistive device manufacturers are actively trying to make their products as aesthetically unappealing as possible. Like, are they competing? Relatedly, I bought (and assembled, go me!) a shower seat.
