Went down a brief rabbit's hole of Italian owls, and I think this photo of the Little Owl bears a resemblance to the mosaic owl. The little owl, Athene noctua, is the symbol of the Greek goddess Athene, who represents wisdom, science and strategy. My other possible candidate is the Short-eared Owl.
Fun fact lovely Fishbourne, my Dad visited you in 1961 when Barry Cunliffe was excavating. He passed in his love of history to me and I have my BA and MA in Classical Studies. I will be visiting when the weather is nicer 👍🏻
If you'd commissioned a floor with a superb owl, imagining the elegance of a barn owl or grace of a hunting short eared owl, and you came home to find that you'd be a touch disappointed. Perhaps it survived because the owner wasn't much of an ornithologist.

We went with shoulder pads. Its a bit of a tangent but it’s the best we could do. 🤷♀️
