My family visited there one summer when I was a kid, and all I remember is being very hot and very, very bored. Given your reading about the site, I trust you will have a much more meaningful experience. :)

I teach about NATO in the Cold War context for HS Global History, and start off w/ a handout of the opening paragraph (more or less) of the NATO agreement. Students work w/ a partner to figure out the doc's purpose, why it references the N. Atlantic, and its historical context.

When I was in Amherst MA last week, and the temperature was in the teens, I heard a tufted titmouse, black-capped chickadee, goldfinch, and mourning dove, according to my Merlin phone app.

Per the Interwebs, “Trigon” is a DC comics character who is “the embodiment of evil.” www.dc.com/characters/t... seems apt. It’s also an archaic form of “triangle,” but do we really think he knew that?

Based on my years of teaching Global History, my view is that humans do not learn from history lessons that prevent the rhyme of history, but we may learn to understand events better, and thus to address them better.

We can all do something. Go to a protest, contact elected officials, give money, run for office, sign a petition, talk with anyone you know who has a different political view. Remember your values. Take care of yourself. We outnumber them.

I teach 10th grade Global History in NYC, and tell students that at times weaker places have their fate decided by stronger ones. In addition to China & the Berlin Conference: Czechoslovakia 1936, Korea & Vietnam during Cold War. Strong doing what they can, weak suffering what they must.

The UW-Madison reaction surprises me based on my under-informed impression of the place, but I was in college in the 80s and know many were leaning conservative.

You misspelled their name, when I was trying to recall it recently for a class on nonviolence, I kept thinking, "No, no, it's not Kristin. What IS it??" Much ❤️ to you both for all you do.

Older gal here - I had just graduated from college (was a semester early), was in my tiny studio apartment, heard - I guess on the radio - that the Challenger had "blown up," and my first thought was, wait, blew up? Like exploded? Then I turned on the TV and felt heartbroken.

So far I've called the 2 Dem Senators about RFK Jr, left VMs for both. Tomorrow is a day off from school for Lunar New Year - have a happy one! - so I can try making more calls.

Oh, but those are the special Madagascar Hissing roaches. (I once saw one live when I wound up a parent chaperone for "bug day" at my kid's daycare.) I would rather give his name to one of the nasty ones that either infest or terrorize folks in the basement.

My school is doing its first staff secret spirit days, and the students definitely noticed something was up with so many teachers wearing sports jerseys. Our plaid day is happening this coming Tuesday, and I suspect that once again I'll be the only one rocking a plaid skirt!
