It's been a couple of weeks since we posted #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint but here's the one on Pillar. Traditional stone construction and in good condition when we visited on a fine September day. You can visit on our 'A Mosedale Horseshoe' walk www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_20.html

Thank you to @kirstysnp.bsky.social for raising the issue of proportionality in relation to the implementation of the Online Safety Act in the debate at Westminster Hall today and especially her reference to "a hill walking forum that gets three posts a week" parliamentlive.tv/event/index/... #OSA

This is a fairly routine #Wasdale MRT call out report but the team lead was Jess who was a Very Good Dog and we couldn't resist the photo. www.wmrt.org.uk/incidents/co...

A favourite #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint of ours is the one on Loughrigg Fell and our walk to it from Ambleside is currently our most popular download. www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_141.html

Today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint is the one on Loadpot Hill, one of Wainwright's Far Eastern Fells lying between Ullswater and Haweswater. Traditional stone again and looked like it had been grouted recently. (The red thing at the base is an orienteering marker for a race happening that day.)

Today's #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint is the one on Little Mell Fell and was in fine condition when we visited it on a sunny day, with Blencathra in the distance behind it. It's easy to access via a remarkably short and steep walk from the straightforward access point of The Hause.

We have today written to our MP about the Online Safety Act 2023, its appalling and disproportionate implementation, and how it will affect our web site. www.walklakes.co.uk/forum/viewto... #OSA

Today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint is the one on Ling Fell, which is located west of Bassenthwaite Lake and is one of two at the northern tip of Wainwright's North Western Fells (Sale Fell to the east being the other). It's traditional stone built and was in pretty good condition when we visited.

For today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint we find ourselves on Lank Rigg, one of Wainwright's Western Fells, and this one is located south west of Ennerdale Water. Traditional stone built and was in very good condition when we visited.

For today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint we have a more conventional concrete one, which are relatively rare in Lakeland where a lot of them are stone built. This is the one on High Street (Racecourse Hill).

Today's #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint is on High Pike (the one in the Northern Fells, there are four in Lakeland) where there is also a fine stone bench. This is one of the very few Wainwrights on the #CumbriaWay You can read more about that well known Long Distance Path here www.walklakes.co.uk/cw/

We have "water levels" layer in our GPS mapping app. We've updated the popups and we've also updated our list of English gauging stations which has increased our total from 1,901 to 2,437 and as part of that we have removed some which were no longer operating. www.walklakes.co.uk/opus79692.html

Another day, another #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint and this one is a classic: the one on Helvellyn. This was taken on sunny day in March but there's still some snow on the ground. Catstye Cam is the near fell just to the right of centre.

Today's #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint in the one on Gummer's How, a fell above Windermere. Our walk 'A short sharp walk to Gummer's How' will take you up to it. www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_206.html

If you're wondering what the weather is like in the #LakeDistrict today then we have a fell top weather page here www.walklakes.co.uk/forecast.html which includes the Fell Top Assessors' report through the winter months.

Today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint is on Gowbarrow Fell with Great Meldrum and Ullswater in the background. Looks like the National Trust did some re-grouting when they added their plaque. Also a nice shot of Jessie who is much missed by us both. Our walk to it here www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_39.html

Today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint is on Fellbarrow, a #Wainwright Western Fell south of Cockermouth. Another stone built on and at a bit of a tilt but still in reasonable condition. And of course we have a walk to get you there. 😁 www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_181.html

Herdwicks! #cumbria #lakedistrict #snowhour

A group of men in their 20s who were "up to their waists in snow" were rescued from Scafell Pike on Sunday by #WasdaleMRT. They started the ascent at 4am, summited and then got lost coming down. An amber weather warning for snow was in force at the time. Sigh. feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/article...

Today's #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint is the one on Crag Hill and here you see it on a sunny day in 2013 with Scotland visible it the far distance. There's a sad story to tell with this one, but that'll wait until tomorrow. www.walklakes.co.uk/photo/1490

Continuing to look at #LakeDistrict #TrigPoints here's the one at Clough Head on a very dreich day. Jessie's looking damp and grumpy. www.walklakes.co.uk/photo/1809

Wrynose Pass and Hardknott Pass are closed due to 'severely icy conditions'. www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/2483182...

Continuing on our #LakeDistrict #TrigPoints theme this is the one on Black Fell taken on a rather overcast day. Traditional stone construction and the National Trust have added a plaque naming the fell. www.walklakes.co.uk/photo/1821

We've just imported the latest version of the Database of British and Irish hills. We are now on version 18.2. Three hills were added Meall nan Gobhar and Meall nan Damh East Top in Scotland and Cownhill in England, so we now have 21,321 hills on our web site. www.walklakes.co.uk/opus79691.html

We've been looking at the hills you've been bagging and we've got some thoughts, and also a top ten. www.walklakes.co.uk/opus79687.html

Continuing on our #LakeDistrict #TrigPoints theme this is the one on High Raise, with Glaramara beyond. You can also make out Honister Crag, Grey Knotts and Brandreth in the distance. www.walklakes.co.uk/photo/1852

Yesterday's photo of the trig point on the Old Man of Coniston reminded me that we've got lots of photos of #TrigPoints so let's take a look at a few more starting with the one on Binsey. It's a classic #LakeDistrict stone built one, no concrete post here, and still with the benchmark plate attached

Morning all - Here is one of my favourite shots of last year. Taken at Derwentwater in the Lake District,.UK. It reminded me of a victorian painting. You could probably go back to that era and see the same scene. Happy New Year! #photography #landscapephotography #nikon #lakedistrict #nature

Scout Scar in Winter - one of most underrated view points in the whole of Cumbria! #landscapephotography #lakedistrict #causeitsraining

And so we come to the end of the walking year on a day when it's best to be inside planning! We hope you have a good walking year in 2025. Perhaps you might visit the Old Man of Coniston, a very fine #LakeDistrict fell? We (naturally 😀) have a walk to get you there www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_81.html

Today's weather reminds me of the day Beth went up Round How with Jessie when it was similarly overcast. But 'A visit to Place Fell overlooking Ullswater' is still a fine #LakeDistrict walk from the bottom of Ullswater ... although probably not today. www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_129.html

Passed this traditional lakeland barn at Hartsop near #Ullswater in the #lakedistrict, #Cumbria, #UK whilst walking down from Hayeswater reservoir. #landscapephotography #stonebarn

Another wild one with the old man and Nick today pals. Not a day to be hanging about taking pictures! #BTposse #cumbria #lakedistrict #wainwrights

The Fell Top Assessors are walking to the summit of the #LakeDistrict peak Helvellyn daily until March to obtain a detailed ground condition report for winter walkers. Their 'boots on the ground' updates let you be as prepared as possible when out on the fells. www.walklakes.co.uk/opus79683.html
