I have just completed a book which describes where this is going. Guardian - Steve Allanson amzn.eu/d/11vWDoj

THIS is the reason behind what we see happening.

It is therefore obvious that those wealth owners must have more control over the populace in order to maintain their position. They will need to continue to distract the masses with fictitious enemies - immigrants, illegals etc. in order to continue to secure themselves.

The time is not too far away when only those who own things - businesses, assets, etc. will be secure. "Working" people will have no means to earn a living and will rely more and more on state support. But only those with assets will have any wealth to pay taxes.

Today in the UK just 40 families own more wealth than the poorest 34MILLION people.

So I presume she will be eschewing all the benefits of science... Electricity, clean water, medicine, all non natural fibres, all prepared food, refrigeration, heating... ????

I wrote what I thought was a pretty far fetched dystopian Sci Fi book on how this might all pan out. It gets more real every day. amzn.eu/d/c14zhaH

Unfettered free market capitalism is antithetical to democracy and a fair and free society. When are we going to realise this?

Delightful painting. And you are correct - few realise how solitary puffins are. That they spend their first 3 or 4 years alone at sea, continue to spend 8 months per year alone at sea, meeting their mate for life only at the start of each breeding season. Read more amzn.eu/d/fvzOgmy

I'm often tempted to despair of him. Then I remember, the UK will NEVER elect anything socialist government. He has done some good things...maybe there is a price to pay.

4. Re care homes Maybe he's calling the Bluff of the providers One more of a care provider in north yorks. "I can't continue if I can't using migrant Labour ( cheap). Meanwhile he pays himself £2.5million p.a. 120 times what he pays his carers

3. It is clear here cannot quickly fix service provision. He gets hammered if he cuts ( no matter how sensible - eg getting rid of wfa for wealthy pensioners like me ) Or if he raises revenue e.g. closing the agri IHT loophole By playing the migration card he gives himself some leeway ( for now)

I was originally also shocked. However, having thought it through, I wonder if he's being quite clever ( albeit maybe the language was clumsy) So... 1. Migration is plummeting. He can now claim credit. 2. 10 years residency before citizenship is not unusual. Eg Italy More below...

As I said in another post - if you combat the rise of repugnant right wing reform policies by implementing repugnant right wing, racist, anti immigration policies then all you get is repugnant, right wing, racist anti immigration policies. They will never be enough to satisfy the racists.

Yes, but I'm not saying it was ok that it was cut down. It wasn't, it was stupid, selfish and senseless. But... It's done. Now opportunity to improve. Would you want to clone a cat if it died, because it was special? So why clone a tree that was not the best choice of tree for a special place?
comment in response to post
The scene was "special" I agree. The tree was not. It was an invasive non native species It's gone...presenting an opportunity to replace it with a better, more appropriate tree.. Oak, ash, elm, beech. Many candidates. I wonder how " iconic" it would have been without Hollywood?
comment in response to post
Re "the tree". I've walked Hadrian's wall and it does have good memories. But... The idea the tree itself is special is ludicrous. Replace it with an oak. As to the pair of idiots. Make them learn all about Hadrian and his wall. Plus 10 years with no phone or Internet access.

I bet they're not rationing water in Marrakech though...
