My home is not a highly ordered place. Moss grows over quite a few surfaces unperturbed.

Planted the overwintered-in-pots columbine out front where it can perform its solemn duty of being an attractive and conventional plant that is incidentally native. And also did a lot of winter sowing potting up. #nativeplants 🌱

It was a perfect morning for our @wildonesnatives.bsky.social chapter to have a little nature walk enjoying the spring ephemerals — flowers that pop up right at the start of spring before the trees leaf out, then retreat for the rest of the year — as well as other early arrivals.

Went on a hike on Bacon Ridge in central MD with CrossFit gym people today and as a result only took pictures of SOME of the very lovely plants. 🌿 #nativeplants

Today, continued. #nativeplants 🌱

Hadn't seen these guys for a little while. It's strange how quiet his song is. (The lady of the house also made a brief appearance.) 🪶🐦

We got a lot of rain yesterday.

Wondering if this lil guy is V. sororia like most of my violets or something else. The leaf shape looks different. 🤔🌿

Gardening surprise of the day: arugula roots get quite deep quite fast.

Please imagine I have posted the smell of bread baking.

Today.

One of these days the golden sea will wash over my garden again. Not yet. Soon.

I think I'm gonna make seed bombs as part of this. I have loads of extra #nativeplants seeds so will mix em up and stick them in dirt for enterprising kids to throw around.

FYI: if you're in the mid Atlantic, the US Geological Survey has a list of native plants you can plant that will be good for native pollinators (which includes blueberry bushes...). you can get seed packs that include perennials so you don't have to replant all the time www.usgs.gov/centers/eesc...

A bumble bee in a Great Blue Lobelia. Only the females have pollen purses, (the yellow pouch on her back leg) which are called corbicula. They use it to carry pollen back. #bees #gardening #nativeplants

Good Job Noodle Body (front squats, box jumps, ring rows, 2 min on/2 min off) 🏋️

Our household uses glyphosate (Roundup). Specifically we paint it on cut trunks of invasive trees and shrubs like white mulberry, mimosa, rose of sharon, tree of heaven, and Euonymus. I wouldn't blame anyone for not using it, but some harmful plants are tough to manage without chemicals.

What’s a good source for wildflower meadow maintenance? My city mows all our meadows in the winter—when wildlife need it most. I want to put together info on why that’s not the best plan. But the sources I’ve found are conflicting… #nativeplants #pollinators
