Yes, the SSA does a great job. The point I was trying to make is that they ARE very on top of things and donât overpay after someone dies without later recouping the overpayments. So any claim that they are paying millions to dead people is nonsense.

Just as an FYI, SSA is notified almost immediately of a death whenever a funeral home is involved. And no one is receiving any extra monthly payments. The SS payments stop immediately, and payments can even be taken back, depending on the day of the month the death occurred.
