I am inspired when people commit courageous acts of resistance, but as a medical provider who has served the uninsured for the last 15 years, I totally get why people would feel compelled to make this choice.

I disagree. Regular insulin is $300.00 a vial and generic epi pens start at $277.00 each. Losing your health insurance can cost you your life, your life savings, and is a major cause of stress when you lose your job.

And finally, as an unemployment law, make sure you have it in writing. Save your emails, document your conversations with every supervisor, and make sure any changes to your benefits and employment packages are in writing.

And the benefits are why people work for the Federal Government. For employees with bachelor's degrees and professional degrees, they can expect to make 10% and 25% less than in the private sector respectively. Why do they do it then? The benefits.... www.cbo.gov/publication/...).

The average wage of a Federal Employee is $106,000.00 per year. Even if employees received the full $25,000.00, it would only cover about 25% of their wages and little of Federal benefits.
