If you think fertilized eggs have rights but 2-year-old US citizens with cancer don’t, stop pretending your concerns are “the children.”

This is a point that I've failed to verbalize effectively. Forced and so ever quickly. #TLsky #EduSky

Closing out a 504 plan for a kid who was banging their head on desks a couple years ago before accommodations and now is “possibly the strongest participant” in AP Lit? Amazing when interventions and support are given and work😤✨ Can we please keep the DOE so more autistic kids can thrive?

Saw an excellent heron today

MORE more MORE more! Oregon Governor Says… 💙NOPE💙 🇺🇸WE WILL NOT COMPLY🇺🇸 WE ARE NOT GOING BACK

Science does not work like this. The only way you can set a timeline is if you have rigged the results in advance.

Imagine how deeply pathetic your life has to be to cheer for canceled library funding. We might be hurting right now, but at least we aren't them.

Time to check in on social media for my little hit of dopamine.... what??? All cortisol???? Again??!?!

“They were careless people…they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness…and let other people clean up the mess they had made…” -- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby (April 10, 1925).

TL;DR: The new U.S. tariff rate against our two largest trading partners is either 10%, 25% or 35%, and so far no one I've reached out to at the White House is able to tell me which.

At a mandatory Title IX staff training and he opens with “you may already know this but it looks like we’re going to be folded into the Department of Agriculture.”

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

As I find myself saying with depressing frequency these days, what the actual fuck?

You may be fearing your 401k is no longer enough for you to retire. But with all the cuts to NIH and Medicare you also won't live as long. So the policies are integrated.

Just got to the Mall and saw this sign, which no one is going to top. #HandsOff2025

Trillium Festival and Hands Off protest. Excellent Saturday.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A “TRADE DEFICIT”—IT’S JUST CALLED “BUYING THINGS.” YOU DO NOT HAVE A TRADE DEFICIT WITH YOUR DENTIST JUST BECAUSE HE NEVER BUYS ANYTHING FROM YOU.

People gonna be trying to pay rent with their hatred of pronouns.

After getting some rest, I am in awe of everyone who continues to lift their voice and speak out. This is a moment for our country, and we must make a choice about the America we want to be.

I want to sincerely thank every single one of my Senate Democratic colleagues who came to the floor, not to just support me, but to share incredibly powerful stories and ask important questions their constituents want answers to.

Here are some nice mushrooms

SO, does anyone know any Portland, OR area Spanish or bilingual children's authors I could contact about a school visit? #librarians #Skybrarians #TLSky

thought kids were supposed to love nursery rhymes but i can't get mine interested at all... any recommendations? (already tried cursory and bursary)

please don’t text me war plans, because I’m actually at capacity right now and I don’t think I can hold appropriate space for you. do you have someone else you could reach out to?

Today my library had a mouse running around, a 2nd grader who puked on the carpet, a recent immigrant from Vietnam using Google Translate to tell me he likes being in the library, and a different 2nd grader checking out “Stacy’s Big Words” because “she looks like me!” A win?

Sandal would love to hear your work stories. he will not make comparisons to his own experiences. he will not make suggestions on how to fix your problems. he will act very offended on your behalf when you talk about your jerk coworkers. indeed, he will seem even more enraged than you are.

Totally normal to be getting “they’re cutting IMLS!” SOS’s from the library world and “they’re gutting the dept of Ed!” ones from the teaching world. Only good moment online is when I accidentally sent a mildly saucy message to my husband in the family chat and horrified our teen.

Found a way to push on the shelf so it makes a cool thump sound over and over. Then someone moved it so the thumps don’t work :(

My "We do not support eugenics" T-shirt has people asking a lot of questions already answered by my shirt.

The strength to publicly admit to being wrong, to listening and learning, should be celebrated

The purple connections is obvious to those of a certain age. (Me. I even knew the year.)

"Time to clean up the Uno game," I inform a group of 3rd graders. The one who speaks very little English immediately hands me an Uno reverse card. "You clean, teacher." LOLOL #TLSky #EduSky

Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933. I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.

There’s a nonprofit in my town called Schoolhouse Supplies. For the last 25 years they’ve solicited donations of school supplies. Teachers in 3 of the area’s poorer districts can swing by monthly and “shop” for free. Just got pencils, folders, tape, glue, crayons, & 50 books. ❤️
