Chaotic scene as protesters swarm Trump border czar Tom Homan in Albany. Assembly Member and mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani shouts at him "Do you believe in the first amendment?" in regards to the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil

from where I’m standing, this is an odd take. The corruption and destruction are the main things people I encounter are talking about. There are protests every single day. Even people who I’ve never known to be political are calling their reps.

On Monday morning, Slate was suddenly informed that six of its employees—including three editors, two of whom were members of the union—were being laid off, just months after four other staffers were also let go. The Slate Union's official statement reads as follows:

McDonald's is testing facial recognition and AI at drive-thrus. The AI is reportedly being used for tailored promotions. It analyzes prior purchases and even weather trends, so you could see a deal on the app for a cold treat on a hot day. www.msn.com/en-us/money/...

Huh

I cannot overemphasize how important it is for you to contact your local papers and offer to give an interview about the protest you participated in. We got three articles and counting in local papers this week because of cold calls and unsolicited letters to the editor.

What the Trump administration is doing to unions right now is worse than what Reagan did to PATCO, and if TSA workers allow their union contract to be tossed out without striking, public sector union power in America will soon be decimated. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/strike-or-...

Feels a bit like Korea is on the edge of a knife. Hopefully this behavior stays limited to a few extremists but Yoon supporters are promising riots if he is impeached. Be careful @ifangbremer.bsky.social !!

Strike.

When I covered the 2008 market crash at my old job, executives and industry attorneys would routinely joke about how crashes are inevitable and that we’d see another one before long.

Medicaid isn’t a handout—it’s a lifeline for millions. It covers 4 in 10 children, 1 in 4 adults with disabilities and 5 in 8 nursing home residents. Cutting it means putting lives at risk. We fight to protect it because healthcare is a right. seiu.co/4hQey0V

if you’re a journalist, the very act of reporting is going to prompt critics to call you an activist whether you view yourself that way or not, so just go on and stand up for things you believe in. if someone criticizes you for it, ask them whether there is an error in your copy.

If journalists can’t also be activists, then what do we do with historical figures like Ida B. Wells? She was heavily criticized by her contemporaries, but she was both a journalist and an activist and blended the two together brilliantly.

Many Medicaid recipients do not know they receive it because Medicaid is called different things in different states. The public narrative of Medicaid focuses on a distant other, but 40% of US children and 60% of nursing home residents receive Medicaid. Just SOME of the names by state are below:

Media suppression, voter suppression, and military control are the dials that the Trump administration will begin turning up as their popularity declines. Expect all to get much, much worse before the midterms. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/three-meth...

Very much appreciated this hopeful & empowering essay from Annie Howard within Luke's post.

My mom died his week because of healthcare policy failure. Her cancer had a hopeful prognosis two weeks ago, when the oncologist said it could be managed with an oral tablet taken daily.

My employee handbook has a section about absences that includes: "If you are detained or arrested for protesting fascism, that is also an excused absence (if you anticipate this happening, please let your manager know the day before so a backup can be planned for your shift)."

Among the secondary awful parts of managing someone’s end-of-life care is dealing with doctors’ outsized egos. One of my mom’s docs just accused me of having “angry eyes” towards him. Sir they are red from crying

Well, you can only outrun the media layoff machine for so long. After 17 years at Financial Times Specialist, the company restructured my publication and laid me off.  I'm proud of the work I did there, and I'm even prouder of leading a union drive with @wgaeast.bsky.social!
