The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

“She said the US justice department itself has recognized that “74% of the weapons” used by criminal groups in Mexico come from north of the border.” www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

“An academy for law enforcement rangers was scheduled to start on February 19. The hiring offers were rescinded in the barrage of federal freezes and cuts issued in January, despite assurances that ‘public safety’ would be unaffected”

It looks like Daines and Sheehy have finally taken a stance on the illegal firing of Forest Service, National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Bureau of Land Management employees: they support it. www.senate.gov/legislative/...

Steve Daines once again claiming credit for funding an infrastructure project he voted against…

"But the source said that most of those that were fired were paid for through funds raised by the Flathead National Forest fees, such as fees associated with timber sales, or outfitter and guides fees paid to the Forest. They were not taxpayer dollars."

Con artists exploit cognitive dissonance. People who are raised ethically often cannot fathom that others might violate norms and laws. This can create mental and emotional blind spots that con artists can exploit. m.youtube.com/watch?v=Azso...

“the United States is not a startup. The federal government exists to do all of the things that are definitionally not profitable, that serve the public good rather than protect investor profits. (The vast majority of startups also fail, something the United States cannot afford to do.)”

I guess the difference between me and JD Vance is that I enjoy being a man and telling jokes and drinking beer AND I think it is possible to do all of those things without being a racist, homophobic dipshit.

Public comment genuinely matters. Courts will overturn rules based on an administration not responding to substantive comments.

The notion that Trump's "I'm king" tweet is "just trolling" or "a joke" presents an opportunity to recreate my just-joking thread (porting it over from the Bad Place): 1. I wrote my PhD dissertation on the social function of humor (in literature & film) and here's the thing about "just joking."

Daines says he supports canceling volunteer drivers for veterans, and zero comment from the other three members. This is just a total abandonment of duty by Montana’s congressional delegation. www.krtv.com/news/militar...

Just got this statement from the USDA on the recent Forest Service firings:

Kelly Grenquist, a recently fired Forest Service wildlife technician on Idaho's Payette NF, is set to lose her employee housing. This is what she told me her plan is: "Just start driving until you can be homeless and not freeze to death, and then stop there and see where I can find a job."

“Staff for U.S. Sens. Steve Daines and Tim Sheehy and U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke did not respond to emails and messages for comment.”

I submitted a Letter to the Editor today. Most newspapers have a 200-250 word limit, so it's not too daunting. Brief statements of fact work best. Hit the fascists hard and call them by name. Can you write a letter to your local paper today?

"In 2022, Republican U.S. Sen. Steve Daines joined party colleagues to vote against the Inflation Reduction Act...But on Feb. 11, Daines sent a press statement taking credit for lifting the pause on Montana Renewables’ loan funds that are the result of the IRA. " #mtpol

In case anyone might somehow still have the mistaken idea that forests had anything to do with the LA fires -- ~97% of lands within fire perimeters were non-forested (shrublands, grass, urban, etc.).

Yet another story about Trump’s (illegal) funding freeze which omits any comment from MT’s congressional delegation. But you can be sure they will be there to claim credit when the funds are restored… www.kxlf.com/news/local-n...

"The spokesperson, who asked to not be identified..." How dystopian is it that the people whose literal job is "spokesperson" won't even identify themselves in this Administration? montanafreepress.org/2025/02/14/u...

Step 1. Defund public lands. Step 2. Sell off public lands. news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-...

Jose Barco, a decorated U.S. Army veteran once based out of Fort Carson who served 2 tours in Iraq, was taken into custody last month by ICE because his citizenship papers, which were supposed to be processed while he was in the Army, were lost. Read his story:

“None of this is conservative. None of this is market driven. It’s nothing more than a naked effort to enrich a few at the expense of the many.” - David Jenkins, Conservatives for Responsible Stewardship missoulacurrent.com/oil-and-gas-...

1.8 million acres of public land in MT are already leased to oil companies, but they are just sitting on 64% of them. “Energy dominance” is just a grift for speculators to rip off taxpayers and lock out other public land users. @westernpriorities.org storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/36d5...

Salesman Steve Daines thinks Montanans will fall for the tired old pitch about how tax cuts for billionaires will "boost the economy" and pay for themselves. We've heard this before and the math just never works. taxpolicycenter.org/taxvox/exten...

www.bozemandailychronicle.com/opinions/gue...

Data: Outdoor recreation grew faster than overall economy in last decade. From 2012-23: -Outdoor rec: 37% -Overall econ: 29% -Education & health care 26% -Finance, insurance, & real estate 33% growth)

"Let me reiterate: I disapprove of the mayor igniting a bus full of C4 in the food court. I may have worn a shirt that said, VOTE FOR THE MAYOR WHO WILL BLOW UP THE MALL FOOD COURT, but that was just my way of saying I only cared about him fixing up the bowling alley."

Steve Daines is eager to take credit for saving the Montana Renewables loan guarantee from Trump’s (illegal) funding freeze. Of course, he’s not mentioning that he VOTED AGAINST the loan guarantee in the first place. theelectricgf.com/2025/02/11/s...

“Today we were informed by the White House that if AP did not align its editorial standards with President Donald Trump’s executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, AP would be barred from accessing an event in the Oval Office.” www.ap.org/the-definiti...

Crickets from Steve Daines, the chair of the National Parks Subcommittee. Is he scared to stand up to Elon or just incompetent? (And does it matter?) www.montanarightnow.com/national_new...

I've got to say, the guy who accidentally became the Director of the FBI does 100% look like the guy who accidentally becomes the Director of the FBI in a mid-2000s comedy about a guy who accidentally becomes the Director of the FBI

Trump just tried to gut funding for veterans, schools, farmers and ranchers, hospitals AND 40% of the state’s budget…and Montana lawmakers spent the day debating how much to raise their own pay. dailymontanan.com/2025/01/28/m...

The Trump Administration just gutted all federal grants - which provide more than a third of the state budget - and these dipshits at the Capitol are still wasting their time persecuting trans kids. dailymontanan.com/2025/01/27/m...

Daines is so desperate to give tax cuts for billionaires that his lies are not even plausible: "If the Democrats have their way, Montanans are staring at a $4 trillion tax hike." The total of all federal income taxes collected in Montana is only $9.5 billion. www.laureloutlook.com/commentary/a...

As the son of Cuban refugees, Tom Llamas should know that the children of migrants born in America are not “considered” American. They ARE American.

This is from Trump's Saturday rally in Las Vegas. That's antigovernment extremist Cliven Bundy in the back row, next to his son Ryan, a leader of the Malheur standoff, and beside him, newly-pardoned Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes.

In my latest column, I said that using any part of Yellowstone County to round up immigrants is not acceptable, and our history should prove it. dailymontanan.com/2025/01/27/n...

Unfortunately, President Trump has issued an EO to block this funding. And Senator Daines sure isn't going to help get it back, he voted against it in the first place. nbcmontana.com/news/local/f...

What Putin doesn't want you to know is that the first battalion that got to Auschwitz was led by a Ukrainian Jew, Anatoliy Shapiro. www.themoscowtimes.com/2025/01/27/p...

#giornatadellamemoria #Auschwitz #nazism #Holocaust
