A meditation on the artificial nature of those who claim to be above us in the class system. Or something.

A new credit!🦊✨ With an incredible original story (plot, characters, setting, side-quests) by Ian Thomas (@wildwinter.bsky.social), Cardboard Sword built a gorgeous adventure. And I had the great privilege to build on Ian's writing and to finish the tale! store.steampowered.com/app/653060/T...

"It's an amazing new idea from a newly funded startup made of experienced AAA team members who want to do things differently. It's a multiplayer shooter." *sigh*

Storylets are little modular chunks of narrative experience that you can arrange in all sorts of interesting ways so that, for example, your players can have a story that they feel is personal to them. Here's me trying to explain: wildwinter.medium.com/storylets-ex...

What's square and smarter than his brother Sherlock? Minecraft Holmes.

I talked a bit about this experience design lense at Themed Entertainment Association's SATE in Blackpool this week, and figured I'd write it up so that folks have something to reference. I hope it's useful when designing specific experience moments! wildwinter.medium.com/the-layer-ca...

Petition to replace "power fantasy" with "agency fantasy".

Not sure this was originally supposed to be urban horror but I'll take it.

Sinners. Good lord. Superb movie. What a piece of work.

Adam (BirdCatcherGames) released a tool to convert Fountain scripts to Ren'py. github.com/BirdCatcherG... Given that Fountain can be exported from Fade In or Final Draft or whatever, it means you can write for Ren'py in script format. (Based on my fountain-tools parser. Nice to see it used!)

It's a roleplaying evening.

"All of this work suggests that under the hood, today’s AIs are overly complicated, patched-together Rube Goldberg machines full of ad-hoc solutions for answering our prompts." That is honestly a fair summation of how my own brain works.

"What is it like, Mrs Steak-and-Kidney? This thing called existence? Being animate, able to hold discourse with others?" "Not too bad," says Mrs Steak-and-Kidney. "I'd give it 7/10." 🎶Yo ho, yo ho, a pie rates life for me &c.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to get the pun in Blue Prince. (To be fair, I haven't played it yet.)

More idle code-noodling for me - a simple framework for specifying storylets in Json, shuffling and prioritising them, and keeping track of their conditions. First release here - available in JS, Python, C#, CPP. github.com/wildwinter/s...

ROSEWATER IS OUT! A Wild West adventure about friendship, storytelling, and found family. It's been a journey making this game. I sincerely hope you enjoy it. 🤠🌵 Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1226670/... GOG: www.gog.com/en/game/rose...

See if you can figure out what this ad from 1984 is selling before the reveal…

“If she wants to know something specific, but doesn’t want people to notice her asking questions, she should simply make incorrect statements while in the company of experts. Her companions will correct her, especially if they're men.” - Advice for female agents in WW2, provided during SOE training

Been reading a little mythology and it seems like one of the main cross-cultural themes is, “do not, under any circumstances, get on a boat.”

A day or two ago I used a handheld wireless communication device made of illuminated glass to tap out a request. In response, today a spare left wheel unit arrived for my robot housecleaner. We are definitely in the future.

I was out walking in Stockholm the other day and this informational plaque caught my eye:

I don't think "cover more indie games" is the best direction of travel for either gamedevs or games media. I think we're at a point where both should focus more on genres, subcultures and tribalism. It's worked for music where you have pop/mainstream, and then smaller genres.
