finally a politician i can get behind

Jeff Atwood on the moment that finally sold him on universal basic income to the point he's now putting $50M into rural UBI pilots: "That statistic from the OpenResearch study that 26% shared their cash? That was the moment. It validated everything. It’s so simple—give people money and trust them."

There are more of us than them. Tax wealth. Do UBI. The 1% has been slowly eating the middle class for over 50 years. It's time to organize to restore the middle class and end poverty once and for all. A better world is possible. The oligarchy stands between us and that better world. Let's eat them.

« Shower thoughts » Decentralized cryptocurrencies and blockchains are the allo parents of economics.

« No more eight-hour days breathing office air that smells like five hundred sheets of twenty-pound bond paper roasting at a low temperature in a nearby oven. If inequality had remained the same as it was in 1975, every American adult could be getting a universal basic income of $16k a year right now instead of the top 1% sucking it all up for themselves. GET MAD.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

The math is that if Canada were to spend $3.6 billion more per year to reduce poverty with a guaranteed basic income, they would spend at least $32 billion less on the costs of poverty. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Today, on the birthday of W.E.B. Du Bois,I consider the racism he endured as a grad student at Harvard. When he graduated in 1895 (the 1st Black person to earn a PhD from Harvard) he was asked about this achievement. He responded, "The honor, I assure you, was Harvard's" Remember:YOU are the prize!

Canada's Parliamentary Budget Office has just issued a new report estimating that a basic income guarantee of $22k (75% of their low income measure) would cut poverty by 40% with a cost of just $3.6 billion after replacement of existing federal and provincial tax credits, based on 1.1% less jobbing.
