Well reviews are in and looks like I managed not to fuck up the finale of the None Shall Sleep series, phew 😂 You can read book 3 All Shall Mourn here: linktr.ee/allshallmour...

If you want to show your opposition to banned books, please look on lists for *living authors*, particularly queer authors and authors of colour. John Steinbeck and Harper Lee don’t need your money. Living authors do.

Unpublished Australian YA writers under 25 can now submit to The Steph Bowe Prize for Young Writers. The winner receives $1000, a 20-hour mentorship to develop their manuscript, and a professional development package worth $200! The Prize closes 15 February 2025. www.stephboweprize.com #LoveOzYA

Almost half of Australians wish they read more books. Here are 10 ways to get back into reading in a distracted age theconversation.com/almost-half-...

Not to be *that guy* but we wouldn't tolerate this being drawn about a female ambassador. I know homosexuality is good for a chuckle, but what if we worked harder for the laugh.

🌟MY BOOK IS OUT, MY BOOK IS OUT🌟 Grinning like a loon here 😄 ALL SHALL MOURN is out in the world. This book that was orphaned by my publisher, then supported by readers so much that I released it myself...It's finally arrived 😊 Hope you dig it🖤 linktr.ee/allshallmour...

We have so little books writing in AU, but sure, just use the little space to promote what the algo pushes. 😂😭 Excuse me while I sigh and title a new Word document *Horny Steelyx Trials*

When will some people stop recommending her work to kids? Like, is there a line?

This is huge - amazon to stop selling Bloomsbury's books at midnight tonight. Especially as my first two books are published by....bloomsbury... www.thebookseller.com/news/amazon-...

Sydney, come spend Mardi Gras at the library! www.sl.nsw.gov.au/events/writi...

pretty wild how the second season of the biggest show ever on netflix appears to have had zero cultural impact??

This makes three Australian indies swallowed up by major houses in a year (by my count, anyway, I could well have forgotten one) which is... sure something.

How long until a gaggle of US YA authors launch a pump-and-dump meme coin and say it's revolutionising storytelling?

I'm going to be spreading misinfo that this post proves they're developing a DKC game. 😏

low-key one of the most insidious dumb guy beliefs of the last few decades to gain widespread purchase has been this notion that demonstrating pro-social behavior in the hope that others would notice and mirror it, one of the fucking building blocks of any kind of society, is somehow ‘fake’.

I've deleted Facebook off my phone. That's enough. Talked to a few people on the radio this week who have completely deleted Facebook. They have no regrets and are loving life. Dare I say a few more might go that way soon...

easy for lots of people to quit facebook and twitter. harder, i think for many people i know, to quit instagram and whatsapp. competition laws! who knew!

omg people are reading ALL SHALL MOURN and I'm freaking out just a little tiny bit 😅

not sure if some people understand that part of what makes creating so rewarding is the fact that it *is* hard. It doesn’t matter if you’re been painting or writing for 80 years— every piece will have problems that need solving, and few things feel better than figuring it out.

If you want to grab a copy of We Could Be Something, Big W is selling it for $6. That's $17 below current RRP. www.bigw.com.au/product/we-c...

day 2 of the year and we already have our first profile of this guy, who has already been profiled 500 times.

If you know any budding writers aged 18-25 with a YA novel in the works, show them this fabulous prize that also honours the so very talented and deeply missed Steph Bowe:

Rowling is still posting heinous stuff, and if we as authors, readers and teachers say that we care about kids and young adults, we must care for all kids and young adults. Leave HP in 2024. I understand she pays the industry's bills, but she wouldn't if we stopped pretending she IS the industry.

Sorry I'm boring here. The bird app's demise and celebs fostering parasocial relationships to get us to buy 50 copies of the same product has killed all enthusiasm I have for *all of this*. 2025 is all about phoning social media in and investing creativity elsewhere.

The always incredible Bec Kavanagh and I (+ lots of lovely guests!) are running our fabulous (if I do say so myself) 'Write a YA Novel' course with Faber Academy in 2025. It takes place online and applications are still open:

1. School book buying season! 2. Order it from your local! 3. While considering if The First Third was too confusing a title, I almost called it The Do-Over + included a twist: the novel was only Billy imagining repairing his family. Glad I didn't do that.

Nothing like stumbling upon an Instagram skit to make you yearn for gatekeepers.

Uncanny

Trying this again - if you’re in NSW, please sign and share this formal petition my friend put together on the dire state of nurse and midwife pay in the state. Send it to your families, friends, far and wide! #nswpol shorturl.at/fXYyX

The worst writer you know is currently pitching a "what if the villain of this public domain story was secretly the good guy?" novel that's going to sell at auction for 6 figures.

I enjoyed Wicked and left eager to know what happens next, but I really wish they got the full story in there.
