Hawai'ian - 'consonants? Never heard of em'
(in Maori at least thoug IIRC ao also can mean 'the world')

Depends on your purpose; it certainly isn't helpful in understanding semantic shift trends

There's several beautiful piano jazz pieces off this soundtrack. It's one of my favourites of all time

When I stopped using them I'd had a string of absurd delivery issues that just kind of sealed the deal. I feel like at this point they have such a monopoly they don't need to care about quality anymore

Occasionally I have no choice, but I go quite far out of my way to avoid Amazon these days

Man, I can't wait for Tuesday now. I miss so many things about Civ 4, even though there's a lot I certainly don't miss
comment in response to
post
Yeah, that's neat. One of the things I've missed from the days of Civ 4 is feeling like a part of a global power bloc and knowing what keeps it together

Lol, I'm glad to hear that the age-old game flow of 'you declared war on me; as punishment I will destroy you utterly' is still a thing

It will. There's also some tutorial stuff out on YouTube; a streamer I follow already has a tutorial series out. I probably ought to watch it before the game itself comes out (though I keep spending all my time watching AOE2 tournament games instead at the moment, lol)

I'm waiting to buy it until it's officially released, but I'm pretty excited for it. I don't know what all the civs in it are, but I'm usually best at science victories, so I'll probably try something aimed that way first :3

I think forest is just kind of an upgrade in general over tikz-qtree? I remember using tikz-qtree in college like a decade ago

Forest IMO is a great general tree package; I'd use it for this

I think the best I've had is still out west of Grand Forks, but my grandparents' cabin in the mountains in Arizona is on a similar level

True! It's easier than using like US-International, and it gets you able to use random public computers in France

I probably would have just switched the work computer one if it wasn't a shared computer :P I use a custom keyboard most of the time; when I learned it I had to relearn qwerty afterwards, but I kept all of the quirks from how I'd used qwerty before

Eesh. I guess at least on your own computer you can use a better layout

Ones with MMO-esque mechanics built into the world, like so many modern isekai stories?
comment in response to
post
Honestly, Frieren is a series I would not at all put in this grouping; the game-like stuff is extremely minimal compared to your average isekai story (which usually literally have skill levels and status menus and so on)
comment in response to
post
Honestly this kind of thing is one of the most extreme examples of formulaic storytelling I think I've ever come across - there are *so many* pieces of the formula that nearly every isekai story reproduces, whether or not it makes for good storytelling
comment in response to
post
My understanding is that a lot of these are following in the footsteps of stuff like SAO that actually was set in an MMO, but they've just kind of glossed over whether or not it's actually a game, because the game mechanics conceit is just part of the genre conventions now

I've said for a long time that there's such a thing as technology that requires the proper cultural attitudes to use safely, and it's clear that things like social media and AI are technology at least most of us don't have the proper cultural attitudes for
