Again, Jews were less than 1% of the German population in 1933.

Clubbed, beaten, attacked with dogs… The Geneva Conventions prohibit the targeting of healthcare workers, both civilian & military, yet Israel has tortured, starved & withheld medical treatment from Gaza’s doctors. It’s barbaric. www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

Terrific resignation letter by Anneliese Dodds, this.

Good for her.

but it's the left who are ideologically blinkered, sure. 🙄🙄🙄

“To imply, for example, that a Palestinian family was allowed to settle in this country under the Ukrainian family scheme is simply, wholly wrong. But as a result of that headline and the publicity, without going into details or individuals, there have been extraordinarily serious security threats.”

I am against war and think military spending should be reduced, not increased, but in the general rah rah for more defence spending it would be nice if someone asked John Healey about the 2022 report he produced describing the MoD as a "uniquely failing department": labour.org.uk/wp-content/u...

What the government can’t afford: ❌Lifting children out of poverty ❌Disability benefits ❌Compensation for WASPI women ❌Winter fuel allowance What the government can afford: an extra £13.4 billion on the military. Never any money for the poor. Always enough money for war.

This government is tee-ing up Reform for its place at No 10’s table - all because of economic orthodoxy and the mindset Draghi condemned in the FT this week. It as if McSweeney is in their camp already.

When I switched from Today to R3's breakfast show ( #ChoosePetroc ) I used to evangelise about this by reassuring people that you get a half-hourly news bulletin so you *would* be alerted if the world was ending but Stephen Bush is correct that recent bulletins make me wonder if this is quite true.

I’m so looking forward to all the articles on why young women are being ‘pushed into the arms of the far-left’ due to their ‘legitimate concerns’ about things like bodily autonomy, rape culture and the hollowing out of state welfare protections, right?

By me, angry and digging behind the lies... open.substack.com/pub/annpetti...

I had the honor of speaking with the razor sharp Julia Wong about Enemy Feminisms, & she really gets it. Writers are not always so lucky to receive such care in journalism. Thank you Julia for putting so much thought into this offering which frames EF rightly as an antifascist strategy intervention

“The coroner also criticised NHS 111 for “misleading” the public by calling its call handlers “health advisers”. This title, she said, “implies professionalism which is untrue given their underlying skills and unsubstantiated given it is their role to complete an algorithm”.”

Love Life on Opera on 3, lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Kurt Weill. Something I've ALWAYS wanted to hear but has never been recorded. The BBC is amazing sometimes.

Why is Yvette Cooper calling for kids to have more fags and scratchcards

I understand that slogans have a purpose and are not inclusive of all ideas, but the call to "read books" as some sort of inherent defense against fascism nags at me. Which books! Reading is not in and of itself a virtue!

It's all very well for the public to say this in the abstract but when it comes down to it are they really going to wear the equivalent of 150-200* austerity initiatives equivalent to the removal of the Winter Fuel Allowance. *v roughly estimating cost of WFA about 0.1% of the annual gov budget/year

we need to bring back the feminist critique of marriage therewillbesinging.wordpress.com/2025/02/18/s...

I wrote about why marriage is bad actually: therewillbesinging.wordpress.com/2025/02/18/s...

Militarist austerity must be the stupidest, most morally egregious, most unpopular position that Rachel Reeves could possibly choose out of all the choices available to her.

Saw this on the other place. Immediately thought of @onslies.bsky.social. #nuntastic

It's not a demolition site it's a mass grave. It's not a demolition site it's a crime scene. It's not a demolition site its a homeland. It's not a demolition site it's Palestine. It's not a demolition site it's a genocide.

This is lovely! (And includes an account of myself and Jo being rendered speechless by The Years at the Almeida)

I finally got round to writing about the best books I read last year: therewillbesinging.wordpress.com/2025/02/01/m...

15 years ago my late grandma gave me her Bernina sewing machine. She bought it in the early 1990s. It runs like a dream and I've had it serviced once - in the last year.

Aren't you

The last year of needless slaughter - and the ongoing suffering of the hostages - is the responsibility not just of these genocidal maniacs, but of the Israeli government as a whole - and their enablers and apologists here. www.timesofisrael.com/ben-gvir-say...

Just sent my first email including the sentence "I will be on extended leave from March" yay!

Agree with every single word of Jasleen Kaur’s speech. Ceasefire now. Arms embargo now. youtu.be/6RoLMAf37qY
