Ka manomano o kakou ʻōlelo #MahinaʻŌleloHawaiʻi

We wave "aloha" to #MahinaʻŌleloHawaiʻi today, but never to ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi! www.aidanem.com/word-family-...

Podcasts are not a usual part of my routine, but I have finally found a chance to listen to @dannybate.bsky.social 's "A Language I Love Is"—so much fun! so many friends! Not having yet finished it, I didn't know if there would be a 3rd season, but then a notification just popped up teasing S3!

Puttering around with my goal of filling in the etymologies of all chemical elements, and found that "Rutherford" is a synonym of "Oxford" 😄 *hrunþaz: "horned beast, cow, ox", apparently Pre-Germanic *ḱrn̥tos. Presumably a derivative of *ḱr̥h₂nóm, which also gives *hurną > "horn"

Ebers Medical Papyrus, circa 1550 BCE. Oldest attested mention of migraines, as <gs-tp>: "half/side head". Shows up again in Galen of Pergamon 1700 years later with an identical construction: ἡμικρανία <hēmikranía> ἡμικρανία > Lat. hemicrania > O. French migraigne > English megrim, migraine Ow.

Ugh, typos on the hashtag 😳 #MahinaʻŌleloHawaiʻi

Kānaka maoli (and Taiwan) www.aidanem.com/word-family-... #MahinaʻŌleloHawaiʻi

Peculiar fellow, that cyclops

Instead, how about: Venus and Darwin, winsome and venom www.aidanem.com/word-family-...

I'd do a word family of "Valentine", except it would include "Donald" and "Vladimir" also, and that's too depressing

Happy Birthday to Freeman Dear-Friend

Went to the mall to get a new powercord. Saw some Hawaiʻian! Nā Hōkū: "The Stars" (At least I assume it's that and not Nā Hoku: "the asthamas") #MahinaʻOlēloHawaiʻia

Ke hoʻomau nei ka Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi!

Irish "duine": "person, human" and Lithuanian "žmogùs": "human" are also close related to *(dʰ)ǵʰmṓn 😀 Additionally, the root <*dʰéǵʰ-> gives "chameleon", "Novaya Zemla" and "Khwarazm" (and thence "alogrithm") www.aidanem.com/word-family-...
