#Caturday post: they have discovered the Red Dot is controlled by a man behind the curtain.

I find it curious that novel writing is a career where, by and large, doing it for a long time and becoming more experienced and accomplished at your craft is celebrated far, far less than your first attempt at it.

Signing off today with possibly the funniest picture Iā€™ve ever taken.

I couldnā€™t be more proud to be a Minnesotan. My home is calling to me now more than ever. Maybe itā€™s time I heeded the call.

Major breaking trans news: The ACLU has launched a lawsuit on behalf of 7 transgender people affected by Trumpā€™s passport ban. Incredible filing. The Trump admin is now swarmed with lawsuits over discriminatory and illegal executive orders.

Theyā€™ve called armed federal officers to the scene. We arenā€™t dangerous. We are here to represent our people. To defend public education. This is an authoritarian regime. You cannot block members of Congress from entering the Department of Education.

Was asked in an interview today whether fiction still matters. Answer? It matters more than ever ā€” and not as escapism (though there is that), but because we know it makes us more empathetic, more tolerant, and more capable of seeing someone elseā€™s perspective.

You're telling me there are 535 of you and not a single one knows how to bust through a door into a building housing an agency you ostensibly oversee?

Jeffries really taking a page from Pelosiā€™s ā€œappease the dictatorā€ playbook during Trumpā€™s first term. At what point is this an abdication of your sworn responsibility to defend the constitution? Bipartisanship is not a thing in a fascist state.

I take back every time Iā€™ve ever called a dystopian novel unrealistic because I thought there was no way the world could ever actually get THAT bad.

I think we need to stop writing dystopian novels/shows/movies. Because clearly theyā€™re using them as instruction manuals and not cautionary tales or allegorical satire.

I'm not donating to your political party if all you're going to do is post. I can do that for free. I will donate if you have a project to resurrect FDR and give him a gun

And for a country that rebelled against an absolute monarchy, itā€™s pretty crazy that they didnā€™t think to safeguard against shit like this.

Hospital protests have begun for hospitals that are complying with an executive order banning gender affirming care. The order does NOT have the force of law, but some hospital systems are too scared of trump to defend trans kids in their care. This one at UVA Hospital.

Because we need cat content in these trying times.

DEI and ā€œwokenessā€ being blamed for plane crashes is like the new ā€œMillennials are killing x industryā€ or ā€œgay marriage is causing hurricanesā€ lmfao

Montgomery County Public Schools comes out and tells Trump to pound sand with his EO telling schools that they have to discriminate against transgender students. This is how you refuse to comply.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. #1006: Much of a writerā€™s creative time is spent away from the desk and screen. Nourish your creativity by consciously experiencing life: by talking to people; asking questions; recording dreams; by noticing sounds, scents, scenes, sensations.

NEW: My staff has confirmed reports that Medicaid portals are down in all 50 states following last night's federal funding freeze. This is a blatant attempt to rip away health care from millions of Americans overnight and will get people killed.

This is my favorite picture of Stonewall. They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+. Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them. I think about it a lot in moments like this.

Few material things can provide perspective. This does for me. Photo of Otto Frank, returning to his familyā€™s hiding place. In 1944, an informant betrayed them and the family was sent to Auschwitz. His wife (Edith) was murdered, his daughters (Margot & Anne) died of Typhus.
