Character limits are just bad. Most people are bad at expressing themselves concisely. Threads force people to instantiate their thoughts into bite-sized chunks that are basically designed for context collapse.

if you make your policy "if you get three strikes in a month, you're out" they'll make sure to only get two strikes every month etc. & if you change the rules they'll change the tactics. there's no punishing them until they behave, there's only kicking them out
