Bet a lot of folks will be interested in applying this Bayesian approach to estimating individual repertoire size from @rmcelreath.bsky.social to the species they work with

... about Python/R not sure. You'd have to ask Burooj Ghani @naturalis.bsky.social. Hopefully we can do soe thing similar for other areas, but let's first see how it holds up.

... yes. not simple. maybe needs a better starting point, or a few extra. this article is vague on many things, does not elaborate on possible downsides etc.

...hmmm, had a quick look, but could not see an easily available way of checking for camera type, which I suppose would narrow the search. In any case, if there are sounds, it seems like a waste of good perfectly good data if they are not used in some way.

.... hi Sara, do any of those projects have a good microphone? There's some areas with very poor coverage soundwise on that map.

.... Shaun reckons there are 152 bird species that have never been sound recorded. That is more than 1% of all species. At the level of subspecies, repertoires much, much more undoubtetly awaits recording.

... well, yes and no. A lot of scraping is going on as well :-) Changes to API are on the agenda, for different reasons, bit could be useful in this sense as well. Also, we have no problem with random people using the API :-)
