No, this one is an actor.

Who reads this sort of thing and thinks "Yup, that's a totally believable RealConversation™ between RealPeople™"?

EDM is not a genre, it's just an umbrella term that the US music industry started pushing back then. Before that it was often lumped together under a different umbrella term (quite often "techno") but electronic dance music has a multitude of genres, some of which have been going since the 80s.

I must say, over the past year I've heard much more open, and loud, bigotry on trains than I have for a long time.

Yeah, but at least people with headphones are attempting to keep it to themselves (and there's far less sound leakage in modern headphones than there used to be), which is why it doesn't bother me. But playing music out loud over speakers is, to me, just as obnoxious as holding a loud conversation.
comment in response to post
Thankfully I have rarely encountered that, but I can certainly understand why it would be so obnoxious. I have, however, been subjected to many a loud conversation by people sitting a few seats away, the subjects of which have sickened me.
comment in response to post
Playing it out loud (as per the article) is certainly wrong. But there are plenty of people who would try to make this apply to people using headphones that leak sound. Personally, if it's not above the volume level of a normal conversation between two people then I've got no problem with it.

How is that weird? Redcurrant Jelly is a staple with roast lamb. Many sweet chutneys and things like onion marmalade (also very sweet) are often paired with burgers or steaks. The pairing is great!

It's easier for them to blame trans people for the current state of affairs than face up to their own apathy and inaction over the years.

Like most people where their lies get out of hand, it was never supposed to go further than a small group of people or be exposed to actual scrutiny. And then, rather than owning up and dealing with the fallout, doubling down and hoping against hope that somehow it'll all turn out okay.

Yeah, sometimes naiveté gets the better of me. Then I punch myself in the face.

Then I remember that the current iteration of the PLP did their utmost to purge the party of anyone who might say just that. This isn't a bunch of idiots falling for the presentation of some market research analyst who has never spoken to a real person. No, they're doing this because they want to

It sometimes baffles me when you see labour haemorrhaging support as they move further to the right and they think that the best way to combat it is to ...just keep going. Like, at some point you'd have thought someone would have said "Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way?"

How do you force people you just voted for to be better? They are in power already, and they don't need your vote again until the next election, at which point the whole "Vote for the lesser of two evils or you'll be the ones to blame for what happens" line comes around again.

Pretty sure it's just muscle memory. If you had been stirring it the other way all your life then you would feel as if the opposite were true. I stir both ways, neither feel awkward or difficult.

Truss was just an incompetent fool, and so shallow as to be practically transparent. Starmer is a conniving little shit who will stab anyone in the back if he's told it'll get him power/votes. I'd call him a snake in the grass but a) that'd be offensive to snakes and b) a snake has a spine.

Yeah. It was, unsurprisingly, for his social media posts ^^

He was expelled last year already.

I remember rewatching Babylon 5 during the 2016 election and the whole "Earth First" president and his election arc was just....hauntingly prophetic.

I agree. The only thing I can really think of is that those keeping silent worry that should they break that silence they will permanently lose any further invitations to such meetings, and might value that over the importance of letting us know what is in store. I really hope it isn't that.

I mean, given who he is and what his views are, it wouldn't surprise me if a number of people chose not to have their photograph taken with him so they don't get associated with him (or used in an attempt to validate what he does) As for disclosing the topics, it's possible they were told not to?

It shows that he is acutely aware that the first group would not be happy with the presence second group whatsoever, and why. It also shows that he knows that the LGBA's "we're a charity that advocates for LGB people" line is complete nonsense, given the different agendas of the two meetings.
comment in response to post
That they aren't all together clearly isn't an issue of size (so many more in group 1), so they are being separated for other reasons. As you said, the first group won't get to all what was discussed with the latter group (and might not even be aware of the meeting with 2nd group)

If we did that then there would be no-one riding the horses since they'd all be running from the dogs. So it's a win-win.

Someone with whom you were arguing with in the thread earlier on. And you can't see it because you are the one blocking ivory, not the other way around.

Yes it is. Can see your profile there in the linked post as clear as day.

that are voted into power, because the idea that they cannot trust the ones running the country to be honest is one too uncomfortable for them to consider. There are also those who refuse to accept that they themselves were fooled, and so will deny all evidence that implies otherwise.
comment in response to post
It's like they think that there's some sort of, idk, magical force that prevents those in power from misbehaving. And much of the public still seems to believe that, even after all the evidence to the contrary. Really, though, it's just that many people need to believe in the integrity of those

I've been pointing this out a lot over the past decade or so. People still seem to hold on to the ridiculous idea that those in power won't lie or do bad things because it's against the rules. 'What do you mean "it's a lie"? It can't be a lie, they wouldn't be able to say it otherwise."

Making and assembling are different though. Some folk might be able to get the various components of a computer and put them together so that it works, but they couldn't make said components. Just like putting together a set of shelves from IKEA doesn't mean that they could craft them from wood.

I do remember there being a thing a few years ago from a very odd section of twitter who were going on about how if you had over 200 followers then you were "Twitter bourgeoisie" and if you didn't at least follow as many that followed you then you were basically "exploiting your followers". Weird af

If they can be sacrificed for power then they aren't principles, they're just standpoints for sale.

Imagine how people would react if you listed your "achievements" for this year by just rattling off a bunch of New Year Resolutions.

What are those pictures supposed to prove? Two of them are worded identically and just have different designs, is that supposed to make them seem more believable? Some claims are flat out lies, all the others are just "announced a plan to..." - a statement of intent rather than an achievement.

While this is purely anecdotal, most "secret family" recipes I've encountered are just old, bog standard recipes that were taken out of an old cookery book and then handed down by memory because the book got lost. People think they are great because nostalgia bias is a powerful flavouring.

I remember that. 2007, so not even 5 years after 28 was ended.
