I really f**king love Hong Kong, and Funassyi! Bluesky user #55,617 -- joined in May 2023! -- but am also "over there" too. Yes, I'm still straddling between Twitter and here (because there still are not enough Hongkongers and Funatomo here!).

More eagle rays in Hong Kong. I upgraded my camera

Because there seems to be more interest in my thoughts on film here than over there... webs-of-significance.blogspot.com/2025/04/a-do...

There are video clips floating around on Twitter showing Funassyi inadvertently disrobing this past weekend at the Chiba Jets arena. Here's a video clip of Funassyi getting into a Chiba Jets basketball jersey from a previous stint as the Funabashi basketball team's Chief Entertainment Officer!

Depressingly accurate representation of the state of affairs in Hong Kong 😔 Nevertheless we can't forget all our friends still there, still persevering, navigating their way through the shifting blurry red lines, dropping the occasional reminders of resistance.

Some people believe that there were pro-democracy protestors killed by the cops in 2019-20 as well as committed suicide, weren't identified, and were subsequently buried in paupers' graves in Sandy Ridge Cemetery, in northern Hong Kong. Each Ching Ming, there are Hongkongers who go and visit them.

Non cryptic, albeit faded in a couple of cases, graffiti seen in Hong Kong this past weekend:

Worth noting that by "awareness" he means "feeling the same way about it that GovHK does". Cos we've all been very aware of it since Day 1, thank you.

One of the rare times YouTube suggested a nice video for me to watch. (Note: there's a Hong Kong connection -- in that this pub is run by Hongkongers who moved to Manchester!)

Our instinct often is to take the path of least resistance and least cost. Even if u don't take the path of resistance in the end, at least train yourself to consider the options and make the calculations Cuz the regime is training u too. To never consider options, until it becomes blind obedience

I see bulbul in Hong Kong too -- but the most common is the red-whiskered bulbul, one of whose antics I found amusing and made for photos that are worth sharing. 🙂

Periodic reminder and proof that Hong Kong is NOT part of the People's Republic of Amnesia. (Cc. @louisalim.bsky.social)

And women who work and live in air conditioned comfort in Hong Kong's hot summers.

Thank you to @wharthur.bsky.social, and @ginkgogoes.bsky.social too!

To my American, etc. friends: please stop posting photos of yourselves, the year of your birth, etc. Especially if you do believe and worry that the USA is turning/has turned authoritarian.

GovHK: Come to friendly Hong Kong and enjoy our tourist attractions! All are welcome! Also GovHK: Not you. You can't come in and we won't tell you why, so how about you go home and reflect on what you did to deserve this.

Another lesson from Hong Kong: I remember years ago, a friend saying, "When Hong Kong people are needed, they will turn out to protest". And we did see Hongkongers do that in 2019-2020... but damn, I wish many had been alarmed EARLIER. And part of me still thinks that might have made a difference. 😔

"I just learned on Rednote that China doesn't just make cheap shit" WHERE DID YOU THINK YOUR IPHONE CAME FROM? TWO IPADS LEFT IN A DRAWER TOGETHER?

Just thinking maybe such intelligent beings shouldn’t be locked up in a zoo

Meanwhile in China (for those who think it's so great compared to the USA)...

A rare public protest in Chengdu "Without political reform there can be no national rejuvenation" "The people do not want a party with unbound power" "China does not need someone to dictate her path, because democracy is the way"

1/ It particularly looks like "normal" to tourists/visitors. A friend from the US who's been to Hong Kong multiple times before -- but previously all before 2019 -- visited over the weekend. The biggest differences he noticed: there's more street graffiti and fewer neon signs in Hong Kong now...

The office, which opened on Tuesday, will be the first Amnesty section to operate wholly “in exile.”

Thank goodness for the low humidity levels... but EVEN SO. The temperatures are shockingly high for April!!!🥵

I've viewed six films in the past five days. Taking a one day break before I resume my Hong Kong International Film Festival-ing. In the meantime, enjoy these pics taken at screenings attended by cast and crew members!
