I really f**king love Hong Kong, and Funassyi! Bluesky user #55,617 -- joined in May 2023! -- but am also "over there" too. Yes, I'm still straddling between Twitter and here (because there still are not enough Hongkongers and Funatomo here!).

I think it speaks to the different Arsenal accounts I Follow (and others that Follow them) that there seems to be people upset at the news that Thomas Partey may be leaving Arsenal at the end of this month after all over on Twitter but crickets/nobody upset about this here on Bluesky that I can see!

Back in 2016, I went to a branch of Shimamura to look for Funassyi merch. Not only did I find a nice Funassyi t-shirt but before that, I was treated to posters of Funassyi in various parts of the store (including one with the image πŸ‘‡) and the voice of the Pear (Fairy) hawking various products... πŸ˜‚

Hong Kong's Ryan Choi Chun-yin defeated China's Mo Ziwei to secure his first career Asian Fencing Championships gold medal on Thursday. Yes, you read it right: Hong Kong has separate sports teams from (Mainland) China! Hong Kong, ga yau!!!

The afternoon set at TOMATO C HING (η•ͺθŒ„εΈ«ε…„) has pretty diverse options. I went for the beef cheek, deep fried cuttlefish and shrimp rolls, and sunny side egg with udon and signature tomato soup (+ drink). Go eat there while you can! It's yet another #YellowEconomicCircle member that may close soon.

I see a good number of Tweets on the protests in Georgia over on Twitter, with images that remind me of the Hong Kong 2019-20 protests. Long before US anti-ICE/Trump protest pics and posts also got me going down Memory Lane with regards to the protests in Hong Kong. For better and/or worse. πŸ₯Ή

I confess... I've only ever gone to shop for DVDs, plushies and other collectibles at the Sino Centre. But I trust Poohsticks' recommendations!

Makes me feel much better now about my having been blocked here by 76 accounts (and being on 2 block lists) the last time I checked! 🀣

"Unwavering". πŸ™ƒ Another of those words, like "so-called", that really are way over-used -- and thus have lost all meaning -- these days in Hong Kong.

Anyone who thinks BlueSky is dead isn't Following someone like @bo-mccarthy.bsky.social who looks to have posted +100 times over the past 12 hours alone. πŸ™ƒπŸ€£

In 2018, Ma Fung-kwok attempted to pull rank as a legislator so he could bypass airport security and carry a 200ml bottle of hair gel, when clearly 100ml was more than enough for him hongkongfp.com/2018/05/24/p...

"He also said Hong Kong is hosting many international arts and cultural events, which are not affected by the security laws." Counter-example #1: Mohammad Rasoulof's "There is No Evil", "A Man of Integrity", "Manuscripts Don't Burn", etc. have had screened at film festivals and then had...

Remember not so long ago when the hope -- even expectation (HAH!) -- was that China would become more like the US, as opposed to the US becoming more like China?!

Some more context: Hiking is a super popular activity in Hong Kong -- among old and young, locals and expats, people from all walks of life, etc. And Hong Kong is home to 0000s of kilometers/miles of hiking trails, some of them far more challenging than many people -- including locals -- realise.

It's both ironic and telling that an American far-right politician who is this ignorant about other countries still knew and regurgitated the "China is 5,000 yrs old" ethnonationalist myth (in the most racist way possible). www.asian-dawn.com/2020/12/04/s...

Let’s see if we can get him in the top 5

To people asking "How's Hong Kong today?" or "How are you?": I know (many/most of) you mean well but... even on my best days, I can't help being all too aware that I'm living in a city with two national security laws.

Strange as it may seem to some, Hong Kong -- and Macau too -- have separate immigration and customs-controlled jurisdiction from Mainland China. So it is possible for situations to exist involving Hong Kong (permanent) residents being denied entry to Mainland China (and vice versa).

Hong Kong usually talks about dates the British way when using English: i.e., the 4th of June. But Hongkongers tend to refer to the Tiananmen Square Massacre as 64 in Cantonese (and in writing). So 46 is less of a taboo/politically loaded number than 64 in the city, or even 535 (May the 35th).
