(Also, hi to all of my new followers! I know you think this is an ancient legal history account, and you’re not wrong, but seriously I am worried for our divas.)

Count me also as unimpressed with the moral and philosophical incoherence of people who insist on asking “does calling Amy Wax a bigot chill speech” but steadfastly refuse to acknowledge the question “does a professor saying black and Asian people don’t belong here chill speech.”

I’m just unhealthily obsessed! Also one of the PhD students at Columbia was the junior rival of Elise Mertens

My memory is that CW was a Bolliterri girl, and I think Holger trained in Spain? That said I don’t know if Tauson went abroad.

Oh I just assumed that the Danish federation didn’t know what to do with people above a high enough level! Like, the Dutch might have had better facilities? That didn’t strike me as that strange… every Danish player I’ve heard of trained elsewhere?

Especially when the economy seems to be 1) unusually bad for media and tech people, plus 2) unusually good for other low-wage workers who are historically not people we pay attention to when constructing narratives!!!

It is also, from experience: almost scarily accurate about large NYC apartment buildings. Every large co-op does have a celebrity! You do end up making friends 40 years your senior! There really are fun little mysteries!

And I think that descriptor doesn’t quite work, in the way that you can’t learn socializing from a book (I don’t think this means we disagree!). There’s a lot of indeterminacy even in Dio’s nostalgic accounts, but everyone is operating from roughly similarly socially-conditioned expectations.

I’m not sure ‘rational’ and ‘rules-based’ are synonyms? There are conventions to it, but they might be more easily understood as an etiquette than as a coherent governance framework…

Really?!?!!!!!??? I had no idea 😈 (En serio: I’m the same and there’s a way to do it well, which doesn’t involve calling people The River. Plus, am I crazy or is the entire op-Ed him seeing evidence his model is faulty and doing an ‘ah well nevertheless’?)

My one humanities-prof indulgence is that ‘logic’ has a plural, and that plural looks *so good.* When I write it I feel French!

Agreed, and word choice is downstream of position! If the sentence wants to start with an adversative ‘that said,’; if it wants to start with a topic ‘, however,’.

I always assumed that the reason CU reaches out to me is that I ‘donate’ to the institution to cover alcohol at events, so I end up in their books. Do TX/SUNY have similar charity funds?

(source: was in that same law school class as JD and Sofia but thought he was creepy back then as well) I’m not sure it’s even that abstract. He wanted desperately to be liked, and when he said The Fascist Things the fascists liked him. Just a black hole for attention and love
