Haha, are you kidding me ? America has no shame and has been electing idiots for a really long time now. During the Bush years every American in Europe didn't want to admit where they were from. All forgotten now.

Damn it Martha, it looked so stupid, but now I'm going to have to give it a look because I love your books so much.

@youngvulgarian.marieleconte.com Marie, maybe you know, the law passed by the Barnier government using 49.3, will it still be law ? (Ugh, messy sentence, I've lived too long in France I think)

Not until next June. That was Macron's big gamble. Perhaps Macron will finally accept a left government, they do have the most seats.

He put the gun to his own head with the 49.3. So stupid

RN is not going to form a government. Even Macron would not do that. They all have to wait until July next year and new legislative elections.
It's just absolutely crazy for Barnier to do 49.3. He pointed a gun at his own head.

Why shouldn't the left be the government? They have the highest number of seats in the assembly. A petulant Macron would not accept their very reasonable candidate. Very much a petit Jupiter.

I'm following a liberal talking about how the downfall of the neolib, anti-democratic french government would be a bad thing. Thanks for this John.

Ian, you are far too centrist. Barnier has been leaning so far right to get the fascist support and still can't get it, so is using the 49.3 anti-democratic mechanism. No vote or debate in parliament. Is this democracy? Macron has abused the hell out of this power. See Borne and all she did.

Perhaps interesting for you Preston, Travis Baldree, the author of Legends and Lattes, wrote a very long medium post on his experience with self-publishing. It went pretty well, he ended up with a Hugo nomination. medium.com/@travisbaldr...

That's amazing. Unfortunately I live in a double ADHD household, at least it's never boring.

I hate long drives because I have hundreds of great ideas, and no way to remember them. Give me a train and a pad and paper any day.

You've got to listen to @mikeduncan.bsky.social Revolutions podcast then. But maybe start with his 250 episode (is that right? I can't remember) Rome podcast.
