i feel like this is evidence for my view that people experience trump through a strong form of ironic detachment. they literally do not perceive him as real.

I realized today that Trump, Musk, DOGE, Vance, Miller, Vought and their many collaborators have broken so many laws already that they know they have to destroy our government and entire way of life to stay out of jail. This is all or nothing. We should respond accordingly.

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad. There’s not.

If the government shuts down Saturday, the richest man in the world will be largely to blame. You may not get access to services you depend on just before the holidays because an unelected billionaire shadow president wanted it that way. If this isn’t oligarchy, I don’t know what is.

Another surge in US job growth! As long as I live, I will never understand how people failed to see what the Biden/Harris administration did for this country and the economy.

The United States and frankly the entire world were robbed of what could have been a truly historic Presidency.

Trump is lazy, intellectually incurious and utterly selfish. He doesn’t give a single shit about the American people. The entire REASON he ran for a second term was to escape prosecution. That’s it.

This needs to be said, loud, and often.

For me, the thing that knocked the wind out of me with this election is that I dared to believe America would get it right THIS time, that America was ready for a Woman President. It hurt having that blind faith in neighbors, friends, and strangers smacked out of me. Dammit, America. 😞

It is the job of the Senate to decide the fate of Trump’s nominees with its constitutional power to advise and consent. If it fails to do this, not only will the nation be saddled with reckless incompetents, the Senate’s own existence will be tragically diminished.

What worries me is that most Americans will simply ignore what is being done in Washington over the next couple of years. They'll turn on the football game, watch an episode of the Real Housewives of Someplace, and ignore it as fundamental freedoms and crucial institutions are carved away.

I can accept that he won the Electoral College. What I can not accept is him winning the popular vote. If this is true, what it says to me is that WE as a society have failed. WE no longer have a moral compass.

Whoever is doing the casting for the final season of America needs to be fired...
