I'm so ashamed that this dumb-dumb is my representative.

I make the mistake of dipping my head into the MAGA bubble once in a while to see how delusional they get. The spin is that the market will come back and it's a good time to buy. Also, a few countries have made meaningless offers to drop or renegotiate tariffs. So they view these as wins.

The dumb-dumb should have gone full MAGA Trump sycophant. He would be in line for a pardon now.

Weren't many of the DOGE employees sent home with pay? Not sure they are considered unemployed until their pay stops or they file for unemployment benefits.

It's not DEI. He's a "good 'ol boy" network hire.

They and Hannity have the most punchable faces on television.

But also demand a negotiation for any cuts going foward. And demand a year-long wind-down of ongoing USAID programs.

Exactly. Plant the steak in the ground. Demand an immediate halt to DOGE closures and firings in exchange for a continuing resolution.

I really hope someone is keeping track of all of the norms that Republicans are ignoring so when Democrats take back the Presidency, we can jam through our agenda without a care.

Not a perfect analogy. This would be like putting on a suit and offering to surrender after Patton showed up with his tanks and the Germans were in retreat.

Even if it passes, who's going to enforce it?

That was a good article. I enjoyed your columns from your time at the Daily Beast. I didn't know where you landed afterwards. But I'll look at signing up for the New Republic now and look forward to future columns.

I wish some of these talking heads would discuss the impact on nuclear proliferation. Maybe North Korea and Iran are ahead of their time? Maybe Greenland and Panama need to develop nukes to keep the big bad USA at bay.

His motives are simple: he wants the leaders of Mexico and Canada to grovel at his feet. This is simply a vulgar display of power. Nothing more, nothing less.

Context matters. The West Wing is definitely neo-liberal when viewed through today's prism. But back when it originally ran, it was just plain old liberal. I am finishing up a rewatch of it and the best word I can use to describe it is quaint.

Let it happen. Then the immigrant families will move to a friendlier town and these people will wonder why they can't find anyone to mow their lawns and clean their buildings. It's completely self-defeating.

We can't win. When we raised the alarm about his stated intentions before the election, we were accused of having Trump Derangement Syndrome. So now it's "we told you so"?

It won't take long. When their fast food isn't so fast anymore, they will realize the consequences. I know of a couple of fast food joints near me that often close their dining rooms because they can't find enough employees to keep them open.

It's wrong to associate that image with sex in any way....unless I need to think of something to slow my roll until you get yours.

Worthless? To you personally? I think the jobs that were created due to his policies are worthwhile. I thought he should have done more for Ukraine, but they are still an independent nation and our major geopolitical rival is flailing. Is that not worth something?

Trump is just a horrible human being. I still can't believe he's going to be our nation's president again. It's absolutely baffling.

On the flip side of the propaganda battle, Times Radio runs a piece almost every day that includes some variation of "Putin's Regime Near Collapse". This has been going on for at least a year. So it happens on both sides.

Standing on principal only matters when it's a Democrat in office. Otherwise, it's "he's not a career politician and doesn't know any better", or if it isn't Trump, they resort to whataboutism.

Dust buildup reduces effectiveness of the fan. But dust on the motor can act as an insulation blanket and cause the motor to run warmer than normal, thereby reducing its life expectancy. But it's mostly the reduction in fan performance that's the main issue with dust buildup.

Agreed, but Dems should not be letting the right co-op traditional liberal positions. "Oh, you have the backing of the unions? Okay, here's a worker's rights bill. Let's pass it."..."Make American economy like the 1950s? OK, let's raise the top marginal tax rate to 93% again, just like the 50s!",etc
comment in response to

Yeah, I'm with you. I just think Dems need to go on the offensive.
comment in response to

Yes, Dems need to address their blind spots head-on. But they also need to learn to trumpet their successes. I mean lord it over Republicans every chance they get. I will never understand how Dems have the support of the creative communities yet can be so poor at self promotion .

2/2 Every time there is a biblical-level natural disaster (and there will be more), Democrats should be completely blaming the Republicans for failing the American people. The message should be that simple. And fuck the political blowback. I mean, what's going to happen, we lose elections?
