Same. Twenty(?) years ago, I borrowed a friend's DVDs of both EVA and COWBOY BEBOP. I watched one EVA episode every two or three episodes of BEBOP. Slowly, the ratio shifted until I was devouring EVA. I started hearing "Fly Me to the Moon" in my ~dreams~.
There's really very few shows I've ever watched which rewards the act of being an engaged viewer more richly than this one. At the end of every episode you could compose a list of five questions about what's going on, and what it all means, and gradually suss out the answers from context later.
I don't think there's any single TV series (outside of those watched in cable syndication as a kid) that I've re-watched in its entirety more times than this, and from time to time I STILL have people bring up major lore which I missed entirely but which was always there to be caught.
You’re in for a treat. Or a trip. At the very least, you’ll have *thoughts*.
You may have been warned about the last two episodes. Some say to skip them and watch End of Evangelion instead. I say do both. EoE makes more sense, but watch the original ending for context.
Yes. Absolutely. End of Eva is a response to the audience's response to the final episodes of the series. It makes no sense if you don't watch the original end of the show.
Its highly addictive.
Which one?
The original TV Series
Death and Rebirth
The End of Evangelion
Evangelion 1.0
Evangelion 2.0
Evangelion 3.0
Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0

Just WAIT until you get to the two-hour movie they made after everyone hated the finale.
And then just WAAAAIIIITTT until you get to Rebuild. Even weirder.
Such a wonderful journey to have lived through. You'll be doing a speedrun of it.
