Sad to hear. I bought so many of their CDs in the 1990s! I also bought clothes at the Putumayo store in Manhattan where they used to play world music, and I think the record label grew out of that store IIRC.

Putumayo CDs were the only music in rotation at the retail jobs of my teens/early 20s (a toy store and a children’s bookstore) that didn’t make me want to tear my hair out. Condolences and my sincere gratitude for his work!

I played Putumayo all the time for my kids! We must have had about a dozen CDs. They learned to sing in multiple languages and I'm sure that's why all three of them are now comfortable trying a new one. We should all leave such a legacy of song.
