I see. So, this is basically a pause on NIH grant review for at least Jan & Feb, and maybe much longer.... Seems like this entire cycle is gone. I wonder if all grants from this cycle will be forced to re-submit. Horrible news for so many of us, including my own grant submission later this month.
Are you referring to all NIH grants or only certain types? My R01 was recently reviewed by NIH study section Feb 5/6, so that panel clearly met. OTOH, my student's F99 DSPAN panel was cancelled. It's been reassigned but the new panel doesn't yet have a date, so perhaps won't happen.
I am also scheduled to be a panel member for a regular pane; Feb 24/25 and there has been no announcement of it being cancelled. So just trying to get the context of your assessment. Thank you!
When did you find out it was "postponed indefinitely"? I'm on a review panel that was moved from March to April because it didn't get posted to the federal register on time. Now I'm wondering if it will actually happen in April!
Well that's interesting. Maybe I don't need to get these reviews in after all...
Nah, the hell with that. I'm going to finish my job, I'm going to hope the idiot policies get blocked, and I'm going to keep fighting the good fight and not do their job for them.
I am shocked that many people are in denial or not aware of what is happening. I told my lab that it is important to stay informed and understand that everything happening now is not normal.
Why February 20th? I thought all the study sections had resumed but advisory council meetings were still not being held for now. Did something change post confirmation that I missed?
No! Only study sections already announced in the federal register have resumed. Nothing has been posted by the NIH to the federal register since Jan 21.
I am finding it wild how many professors don't know this. Please spread this info to your Universities!
As I've said on here recently, I don't share any of this institutionally any longer. Better to just let people experience last minute study section cancellations for themselves, rather than get made fun of by leadership for "panicking".
hm, are you sure about this? I am supposed to be on a Study Section Feb 25-26 and I just got an email from my SRO reminding everyone to submit their critiques....
My understanding is that ones that met before this week (the one I chair met on Thurs/Fri last week) had their notices published before the initial communication freeze. Since there needs to be a 15 day lead time (3 days w/ a waiver), we may be out of luck for a while.

Search for study section name. They're typically listed as a "notice of closed meeting" at CSR.

I'll submit reviews on time.
