The best (most fun) path is to start watching. I know, obvious, but that’s the foundation. History comes out through most shows, and spending some time on wrestling social media will help too, as long as you avoid the nasty bit. Most people are always willing to dish the lore and answer questions! 💜

There are 3 important things to know about wrestling lore.

1) For most of the 90’s wrestlers had second jobs they proudly displayed while wrestling.

2) Things hurt more when done outside of a match setting because of reasons nobody fully understands.

3) Many wrestling fan hate wrestling.

2.) You'd be amazed how much you can accomplish on adrenaline and fear of public embarrassment

What actually helped me out a ton was a multi-part History of the Bullet Club doc on YouTube. I watched that around the time the pandemic hit and by the time I sat down and watched Dynamite I was familiar with a lot of the players (plus WWE talent like AJ Styles and Finn Balor.)

Best you can do is find a show/promotion you like, and learn as you go. PW has over a century of lore consisting of literally thousands of promotions with their own unique history. It's kind of like learning world history - you need to find a good entry point that interests you. I recommend AEW. 😉

Agreed. I'm on a bit of a hiatus myself at the moment, but AEW has some great stories going on. The Toni/Mariah story has been an absolute chef's kiss of long-term and emotional storytelling.

If you need a study break from your lore research, maybe figure out if you want to watch comedy/light entertainment (Orange Cassidy, Harley Cameron), some insane gymnastics (Ospreay, Ricochet, anyone wearing masks), death-defying stunts (Ospreay again, Fletcher, Darby Allin). Fun w/o thinking.

There are also some insanely bloody/gory over-the-top hardcore matches. Fantastic if you enjoy those, but potentially off-putting if the blood bothers you. My kid & I like the crazy bloody stuff, but my husband is on the squeamish side.
For non-story stuff, the C2 Tournament from Nov & Dec was good.

The best way really is to jump in on the next episode (Wednesday for AEW Dynamite), storylines will be explained and it's the first show after a PPV (kind of like a season finale) so that'll reset a lot of pieces. Then when you find wrestlers you like, go back and find past stuff if you have time.

We will likely be getting a rematch between Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada this summer. This feud really changed the industry in the late 2010’s and is worth looking into. Both currently wrestle for AEW.

In my experience, people can pick it up pretty fast- commentators will usually go out of their way to explain any pertinent continuity, and the basic skeleton of 90% is "everybody wants to be a champion, thus everybody is in each other's way- some wrestlers take this very badly".

Wednesday dynamite might be a good start as a lot of long feuds had ended Sunday, there might be a bit of a reboot building to the next ppv. If you like what you see, order Revolution on Triller tv or Amazon, you won’t be disappointed

We bought the tickets and reserved a hotel for Fresno weeks ago. Everything is going to be a surprise, except for seeing MJF and Kenny doing their talky things. I will be happy if we get some flippy twisty guys, and maybe some folks we haven't seen in a bit. Not expecting Will/Kyle/Toni/Mariah.

They lose viewership when they don't announce matches ahead of time. I know some talent is banged up, but with a roster of AEW's size, at least 1 or 2 matches can be announced.

I’d recommend getting into the lore later, and just find the wrestling you enjoy first. If you do want to get into the lore, look up “Dropmick Wrestling” on YouTube, that channel has videos on complete storylines on every story they have available to watch
