I thought it was only going to be 9 episodes. Then, to my surprise, today I found out that episodes 10-12 dropped last night, so my wife and I are going to watch those tonight.
Just wait til you finish those last 2 episodes. Absolutely pure unadulterated cinema and I need Disney to do a limited release in theaters of the final 3 episodes
The story of the ordinary people fighting the boot of fascism is so much more compelling than the story of the Jedi, Sith, and The Force IMO. Andor/Rogue One is pure perfection.
One day people will realize how annoying it is when someone is trying to earnestly praise something they enjoyed while having a bunch of dorks throw out the lamest attempts at jokes ever while even bigger dorks try to yes and those lame ass jokes
This is 💯me since jumping into Season1 last weekend. By episode 2, I was ravenous for more: the writing- amazing, acting- stellar, the world & canon both expanded & validated in the same breath. I never thought I would say this, but holy shit. I’m back-it was like I was in the theater in ‘78 again.
About to binge last 3. Yes it's a fantastic show. Great characters.
Great story lines.
I wondered a little when Disney bought Star Wars, but forgot it's f$#king Disney.
Well done Disney!
Off to my Andor binge life.
I think it's the best SW thing they've done. I love the original trilogy, but it's v narrowly focused. Andor broadens the scope, showing so many threads/examples of life under expanding imperial rule - and answers heaps of questions about the origins of the rebellion.
Genuinely sad it's finished.
So brain-itchy yesterday, with anticipation but also sadness it was going to be over, I had to watch ST2 Wrath of Khan.
When a show's got your brains in an itch that only a solid dose of Ricardo Montalban can assuage, you know it's a good 'un.
Andor/Rogue One have displayed perfectly how a smaller scale story that is about literally anyone except the Skywalker family is exactly the direction Star Wars needs to continue in the future
Not even spin-offs for side characters from the Skywalker saga
I will say that the second half of the season should have been a full season. No spoilers but Syril, Bix, Luthen, and Deedra's arcs are too compressed.
People have a hard time accepting Anakin's redemption because they're imposing Judeo-Christian values on it. He's redeemed in the Force, in that he leaves the Dark Side and returns to the light. That doesn't mean he's off the hook for crimes.
I can’t be bothered with a system that is indifferent to the taking of innocent lives. Similar to the way the Jedi give zero shits about enslaved people.
Not that it matters, but I hold similar views regarding all the real-world religions of which I’m aware.
If you never give bad people an out to be good then you give them no incentive to change. If you’re burned either way best to go out swinging which is awful outcomes.
I get that.
I’m out of my element in this discussion. I see religion as a scheme created by humans to control/manipulate other humans. Carrot and stick. Do as I say or you don’t get the reward that I can’t prove exists.
In SW, we see tangible results of faith.
But SW is another made up story.
It's a bigger problem than the prequels. Han NOT shooting first breaks his character arc from cold mercenary who will leave with the reward to the hero who comes back to save Luke in the trench run. Shooting second removes the starting point of that arc.
So so so damn good. Got to rewatch 1-9 with my dad before the finale, and it was even better the second time around. Every aspect is an absolute master class.
You definitely can. 99.99% of references are to A New Hope and Rogue One, and I don't think it's even that critical to know those movies. It stands really well on its own, and mostly creates its own scenarios and characters.
It's the best Star Wars thing ever made, by far, and I love Star Wars!
ANDOR is going to be one of those shows — like THE WIRE and DEADWOOD and the BBC versions of TINKER TAILOR and SMILEY’S PEOPLE — that I’m gonna read-watch and savor over the years.
So glad you compared ANDOR to the two great Alec Guiness Le Carre series. These series are smart and thrilling, specific but timeless, honestly dark but genuinely hopeful.
Okay, it comes down to this — it’s stunning how every character is so nuanced, messy and complicated. “Evil” characters can get hit with pangs of sudden empathy and crippling morality…
Patton, you're the best. kids and i loved you in the MLP show. --I have not watched any Star Wars since age 5 or so (1985). No strong feelings just no interest. People talking about Andor have made me want to watch but is the utter lack of familiarity with the franchise an issue, or could I dive in?
Andor is so much more than a Star Wars epic. It’s a deep dive into what it’s like to fight against tyranny, and one of the best spy series in a long time. Star Wars knowledge is not required.
All you need to know from the larger Star Wars canon is that this series takes place before Cassian Andor helps steal the plans for the Death Star that Luke blows up at the end of the original Star Wars movie.
Just dive into season one, then season two, then the movie Rogue One, then finish off with A New Hope (the original star wars movie). They all tell a coherent story, start to end.
You don't really need to watch anything else before-hand. If you've seen the prequels pre-Andor, that's just a bonus.
Do you remember the opening scene of the first Star Wars? Where Vader is chasing Leia because she received Death Star plans from Rebel spies? The show is about those spies. Now you’re all caught up! Enjoy!
A fucking space opera full of robots and beasties speaks more to our current situation — and what it’s putting EVERYONE through — better than a thousand think pieces or op-eds.
So much of the show is about the people, rather than the technology or the space wizardry.
This is a high drama / thriller that just so happens to take place long ago in a galaxy far away. It feels like a script they stole from a better show and painted "Star Wars" on top of.
The way they put a bow on it in the final episode is graceful and powerful and pays off in so many ways. I am in awe of just how much juice Gilroy and his team got out a STAR WAR this late in the game. A miracle.
Also, the luncheon square-off between Denise Gough and Kathryn Hunter is officially the second-greatest duel in the STAR WARS canon. Right behind the ROGUE ONE hallway scene and before Luke vs. Vader in EMPIRE.
Patton,
I've been thinking about how Andor is going to raise the quality of other, non-SW shows. It's effectively set a new bar, a new target to aim for. That will help bring us better shows across the board.
I am looking forward to devouring this season and while I have not seen it yet, I think one of the things I often think about it when I watch it is "There are no good or bad guys. Just people who think they are doing the right thing, no matter what the cost."
Soooo sooo good. I stayed up until midnight to finish the series, then I absolutely had to watch Rogue One.. then at 2 am I turned into a "responsible adult" so I didn't start A New Hope. But it was tempting.
Season 1 started a little slow but man, it got good. Haven't started season 2 yet, so don't spoil it if a long time ago, far far away, relative of the Koenigs shows up.
It’s pretty fucking amazing. Something I said all through my later teen years and thereafter, “Wouldn’t it be cool if they made a Star Wars, except for grown-ups, throw in a little Blade Runner, with excellent writing, pacing, casting, plotting etc.? And then Rogue One and Andor appeared. 💫 🙏
Much has been said about the dialogue, but can we take a moment to appreciate the sharp, simple hand gesture by Supervisor Legrat when the stormtroopers reacted?
I rewound that twice. I’d love to know who to credit for that.

And timely.

Star Wars characters that use expletives are my new favourite thing. I would have loved to hear Han drop and FBomb.
Not even spin-offs for side characters from the Skywalker saga
Or maybe I just want more Andor.
How is this in the same franchise that stomped all over its own dick for the three sequels?

But SW is another made up story.
Everything from 1-6 was just thrown in the trash.
It’s leapt past other greats like The Leftovers and Mad Men on my all time list.
It's the best Star Wars thing ever made, by far, and I love Star Wars!

Almost as good as your appearance on @fterMidnight.
That show has become my new brain cleanser.
Stupid funny.

Mexicans are doing the real work here.
And Irish.

Solid writing across the board.
That show was brilliant.
Okay, I am will give this a try.
